you get what you pay for

in sayng that i went with after market pads from autozone, duralast gold semi metalic,, so far so good with stopping power, no squeals, lifetime warrenty but it does have some dust like oem pads.. i used the oem rotors,, prior cars i have used aftermarket rotors and always warped them with my driving habits so oem rotors from now on... all in all very happy with pads and the price.. good luck

I'm all for doing as much maintenance on a car as you are capable .. but I stick to genuine or OEM parts. Car manufacturers spend a lot of money on R&D to design systems to work optimally .. With breaks the rotors and pads are designed to having certain cooling and stopping properties for the weight and average stopping distances. The metallurgy used in rotors are matched with certain pads to provide the best stopping power ..

I wouldn't skimp on the pads .. why buy a Mercedes if you are happy with the performance of a Hyandai? Even if the pads cost you $50 .. your still saving a bundle over dealer installing them!!!

I would just go with OEM, they are really not that expensive, maybe $100 for all four corners. Yes, that is a lot more than $38, but the lifetime or whatever warranty they come with is worthless in this price point, you still have to uninstall and re-install them if you have a claim, and that is going to cost way more than the pads themselves.

I just went through a whole story with the radiator, and ended up paying for the MB one ($640) plus 2 installations ($200 ea) because the Valeo I purchased ($240) came bad from the manufacturer. Could be bad luck, but it ended up costing me an additional $200 for labor than if I would have gone with the OEM from the start.

Like vettdvr said, Would I buy these Brake Pads for my Mercedes? HELL NO!

I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for".

I did some research on the forums about Brake Pads for Mercedes and many people said pretty good things about the Akebono brand. I recently got both Front and Rear Akebono and I have to say, I am VERY impressed. I have driven for almost 3 weeks now and the rims are nice and clean, no dust at all, like I said, very impressed. I got them on "importecparts" for $210.58. (search for that name on google to get their website)

If I was you, I would purchase the Break Pads and Rotors with them (or any other website that sells OEM Replacements) but, do not go cheap on Break Pads and Rotors, you will regret it later on.

Up to you.

Is it common for the MB OEM brake pads to start to make the squeaky noise after long use? This noise has just recently started.............I now have 34,000 miles on the OEM replacement brake pads my MB Dealer installed in 8/2006 and wondering if my next brake service I should get some upgraded pads to prevent the noise?

No I have never had noise. I would look for some other issue. Normally the pads are soft and don't make noise. I suppose it is possible your pads are different. Are you sure they are OE pads dealer installed?

Yes, my MD Dealer would not put anything into the vehicle that's not OEM, especially since it's still under CPO warranty. Maybe it's the rotors not the pads that make the noise?

I installed ferodo like 2 months ago, stopping power is stock like, virtually dustless and no noise :-) totally satisfied and highly recommended.

If your'e replacing the pads, I would use pads that produce less dust than the OEM pads. I have Porterfield R4S (carbon/kevlar) pads, which are almost completely dust-free. I bought them from www.formymercedes.com.
