My CLK320 seems faster than my E500
I haven’t driven my clk320 in about 5 months but for some reason today it felt like it was so much faster than my everyday driven E500 (0-35mph). I know the body is heavier but could it really be that much slower because of that? Both have automatic transmission. I bought the CLK with about 5k miles from a NASCAR mechanic in North Carolina so I wonder if he did anything to the engine...
Also, it seems that I can turn sharper in the CLK than in the E class. A few weeks ago I was making an illegal u-turn in the E class and had to reverse or eat the curb as traffic was coming.. The CLK would have cleared it, for sure.

Either the E500 has something majorly wrong with it, or your butt-o-meter is simply fooling you. Lighter, more nimble cars tend to feel quicker than larger, heavier, more luxuriously geared and riding cars. Sometimes peppy smaller engines "feel" quicker than bigger V8's as they rev more freely and have a bit more jolt during acceleration.
I dunno how much lighter a CLK is than an E, but the E320 my mom used to have felt slow as molasses.
Also, the E is a bigger car, so simply put, the smaller CLK will be able to clear U-Turns easier due to that fact.

I have experienced this effect on more than one type of car. But I'm certain that if you raced your CLK 320 with your E500, the E would win easily over any distance.
Another good test - from a very slow speed - smash the gas pedal to the floor with both cars up to a good speed. The E's acceleration should feel more agressive in this case.

BINGO ! That's exactly it.

Ya, my friends are always impressed with the turning radius of the car.
On a side note... the E has one of the best turning radius of a car I've ever driven.

LOL...I think the 'sportiness' of the CLK is what you're feeling...whereas the Eclass is telling you comfort....speaking of which, the E500 may be set in 'C' mode....
....it would be nice if the former owner of the CLK put a 'supercharger' in there
v6 vs. v8

The E500 has wider gears and that may be why the CLK320 feels faster? At 80mph the CLK320 is at 3000+ RPM (peak torque), while the e500 is at about 2500RPM. I drove both and the CLK is definitely not faster, but has a sportier feel. Highway speeds it may be close, but off the line, the E500 will kill it.
