PS. Yeah, I know, I should be ashamed with a mileage like this since I'm due to return her in Dec '09... oh well.

W211 E270CDi
1. 2003 E270CDi Classic
2. 133000
3. In warranty: Ball joints, autobox valve chest, power steering pump
Out of warranty: Alloy wheels corroded, Alternator failed, water pump, aux belt tensioner.

Over here in the UK they are popular with the taxi drivers and there's plenty with 400k miles or more on them - keep them serviced and fix them when they break and the basic chassis and engine will run forever. Interiors seem very hard wearing too.

It is unfortunate I am in the same boat. I had the same issues on my e series exclusive of TPMS and ball joints, air springs, hot water a/c valve, door locks, ignition, memory seats and the list goes on.

I checked on True Delta and my list is longer than any other. I was wondering if "I" bought the dog but it looks like there may be more barking out there. Really too bad because I really like the car but hate the 200 mile drive for service on 3000 mile failures.

By the way, I decided to fix the water leaking into the trunk lid myself.........I could take it back to the MB Dealer that fixed it originally a couple years ago to redo it. And I'm still on my CPO warranty. However, they would have to order and install another lower panel with the rubber gasket insert and then get the panel painted. Just too much a hastle and they might mess it up again or the paint won't match, etc, etc. So, I just used a tube of Ruscoe Permanent Clear Sealer on the seam. Used a fine tip applicator on the tube and did three applications to fill in the large gap on the right side of the lid panel. It filled in the gap well and no more leaking......the sealer isn't noticeable unless you look very closely. This sealer seems to be pretty good stuff: Bonds to aluminum, steel, glass, wood, masonary, ceramics and fiberglass. Anyway, that's my fix for this issue.
Now that you guys are bringing this issue up, I have always noticed that my trunk lid drips water after I wash my car! Not for 30 minutes and there is never any water in the lid that makes noise. However, I do notice that it leaks more water than it should. The whole car is dried and then I always see some water on top of the rear bumper. If I drive the car, then dirt gets where the water drops were and it leaves that part dirty.

Could you please post pictures of the places you put the sealer? Also, a picture of the sealer might also be helpful. I might just seal that mart on my car and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks!

Steve

53,000 niles

Free repairs under original warranty:

Issues (from the factory):

Noisy SBC pump, not broken but upgraded and has been quiet ever since.
(25 miles) Front right inner drive axel ring seal leaking fluid. Replaced and aligned the car, has been fine ever since.

(At about 7,000 miles) driver’s door lock would not unlock when temperatures were bellow -10 F. The unit was replaced and has bee fine ever since.

Software updates on COMAND unit.

(At about 25,000 miles) driver’s side ball joint, replaced. I later complained so that they would also replace the other side. The car has bee quiet since then. The sunroof was also not working with the one-touch function. They replaced a control module and it fixed the problem.

(At about 35,000 miles) my A/C control cluster would be dead for a few second. Whole control unit was changed. I have not noticed if it has done this again. It was not that serious. Some of my wood panels cracked and were replaced under warranty (the cracks were not that visible). Common problem here in Colorado due to the dry climate and huge temperature changes in a day.

(At about 40,000 miles) The little caps in the center where the fog light bulbs are have fallen and they are loose in the fog light reflector. They fixed the problem, but they have fallen off again. I have not decided if I am going to fix this because you have to really look at them to notice. Has anyone had this issue?

Free repairs under extended Mercedes Benz warranty

(Now at around 53,000 miles) The A/C blower motor sometimes shuts off for 30 seconds and then turn on again. The power transistor was changed. This problem happened about once a month, so I don’t know if it is fixed. The passenger side rear view mirror was not returning to the original position after it tilted down in reverse. I got a new memory module.

The car developed the faintest rattle in the drive’s door where the power seat buttons are. Not covered under warranty, but I did not get a bill yet. Maybe they fixed it free of charge because my dealer is nice.

There were some other minor things that I might be forgetting. I am very picky about my cars and none of these issues required a drive to the dealer just to have them repaired. I got them taken care of along with normal service. So it really was not an inconvenience. I imagine some people would not notice some of these things. The car has actually been quite good though.

I have on my own already done:

Transmission, center differential and front differential fluid changes at 26,000 miles.

Now at about 52,000 miles I had the coolant flushed (distilled water and Super Cool were added) and the rear differential was serviced. The batteries have never gone dead and they just tested as OK (they are 5.5 years old now).

BTW, I am still with 55% brakes left at 52,000 miles! I do wear out tires within about 24,000 miles though.

~101,000 miles (99% highway)

No major issues

Still on 1st set of brakes (Pad thickness: 7mm front, 6mm rear)
~60,000 miles on current tires (Goodyear TripleTred)
Still gets good mileage (40mpg only with tail-wind)

Scheduled maintenance is costly due to ~30k miles/year (lots of dealership visits).

Well I get 50 mpg in a hurricane tail wind.

At 88,000 miles I am on tire set #4 Michelins.

Conti's, Bridg, Coopers, Michelins. Whew finally found tires that would wear even, drive straight and not cup out. Dah,, isn't that just the basics of a good tire.

Probably why they dropped SBC from production. I really like the feel of the MB brakes now.

P.S. Please take a moment to participate in the reliability survey.

http://www.truedelta.com/index.php?session_code=

Really would help eveyone make an educated decision based on reliability.

Just passed 40K this weekend. Swapped tires a month or so ago to Michelin Pilot exalto's, battery and alternator changed under warranty, squeak in trunk lid closer fixed, 3 or 4 oil changes and still running strong. Like to keep it for 200K +.

2005 E500 4MATIC - 84,000 miles (bought with 37k 13 months ago : ( )

Transfer case replaced under warranty. Dealer was top notch about it. Other than that, she takes a beating of about 180 miles a day and doesn't give me any trouble. Great car.

I really hope it stays that way. Check back at 75,000 and let us know again. Ball joints around 65,000 were common in mine.
