Definately not the high mileage person here. My 2006 E320 CDI only has 72000 miles. However 40,000 of those miles have been put on in the past 12 months.. The only items this year are maintenance as far as out of pocket. I had a couple of warranty items covered by CPO. Turbo Intake pipe seal, and rear shade.

this forum needs to be split pre 2007 and 2007 on.
Sorry to say, but 2008-2009 are like different cars in terms of reliability.

Currently has 64290 miles on odometer.
Went through:
6 glow plugs, 2 front upper control arms w/ball joints and bushings, 2 front shocks w/mounts, 2 lower ball joints, passenger side lower control arm w/bushing, 2 front torsion arms w/bushings, new rack and pinion plus new power steering pump, new thermostat, new coolant hose between the engine and heater core, new A/C evaporator temperature sensor plus valves for the A/C lines and Freon exchange and fill up due to freezing on long drives and new ashtray door. All was done under warranty.
Auxiliary battery was replaced, but I have to pay for (not covered under warranty).
Other than that is been only oil, filters and fuel and driving.
Very happy with the car, gets great mileage too.

Almost 40k miles.
huge problem -- too much "spirited" driving resulting in going through tires every 12k miles .. another problem .. addictive to drive due to how comfortable and fun it is.

no problems; great car

But mileage is really too early yet to know. Although my experience is bad samples usually show issues from the beginning.

We shall see.......

Please elaborate: are the later models that much better (or worse)?

I am turning 135K on my 04 E500.
- Front end bushings
- New engine mounts
- Cross over valve
- New gas tank / new seal around gas pump
- One new rear shock
- New main and auxiliary battery
- New steering rack (only because the high pressure gaskets were leaking, I think I got taken for a ride)

I am very slowly losing air from the Airmatic, but it is not on one of the airbags. I am investigating. I get aggravated sometimes with the repairs, but on the other hand, the car has never ever let me down. I have been with it to California and to Florida. Always starts and has never quit. Louisiana roads don't help much with the suspension.

I am starting to look for a replacement. I just want a more recent E (07 or so), either gas or diesel, with lower miles. Boss has expectations.

Free repairs under original warranty:

Issues (from the factory):

Noisy SBC pump, not broken but upgraded and has been quiet ever since.
(25 miles) Front right inner drive axel ring seal leaking fluid. Replaced and aligned the car, has been fine ever since.

(At about 7,000 miles) driver’s door lock would not unlock when temperatures were bellow -10 F. The unit was replaced and has bee fine ever since.

Software updates on COMAND unit.

(At about 25,000 miles) driver’s side ball joint, replaced. I later complained so that they would also replace the other side. The car has bee quiet since then. The sunroof was also not working with the one-touch function. They replaced a control module and it fixed the problem.

(At about 35,000 miles) my A/C control cluster would be dead for a few second. Whole control unit was changed. I have not noticed if it has done this again. It was not that serious. Some of my wood panels cracked and were replaced under warranty (the cracks were not that visible). Common problem here in Colorado due to the dry climate and huge temperature changes in a day.

(At about 40,000 miles) The little caps in the center where the fog light bulbs are have fallen and they are loose in the fog light reflector. They fixed the problem, but they have fallen off again. I have not decided if I am going to fix this because you have to really look at them to notice. Has anyone had this issue?

Free repairs under extended Mercedes Benz warranty

(Now at around 53,000 miles) The A/C blower motor sometimes shuts off for 30 seconds and then turn on again. The power transistor was changed. This problem happened about once a month, so I don’t know if it is fixed. The passenger side rear view mirror was not returning to the original position after it tilted down in reverse. I got a new memory module.

The car developed the faintest rattle in the drive’s door where the power seat buttons are. Not covered under warranty, but I did not get a bill yet. Maybe they fixed it free of charge because my dealer is nice.

There were some other minor things that I might be forgetting. I am very picky about my cars and none of these issues required a drive to the dealer just to have them repaired. I got them taken care of along with normal service. So it really was not an inconvenience. I imagine some people would not notice some of these things. The car has actually been quite good though.

I have on my own already done:

Transmission, center differential and front differential fluid changes at 26,000 miles.

Now at about 52,000 miles I had the coolant flushed (distilled water and Super Cool were added) and the rear differential was serviced. The batteries have never gone dead and they just tested as OK (they are 5.5 years old now).

BTW, I am still with 55% brakes left at 52,000 miles! I do wear out tires within about 24,000 miles though.
Update since the last post:

67,000 miles on my 2004 E320 4-Matic

My blower motor stopped working for a few seconds and then started to work again last summer. I mentioned it and the dealer changed the blower motor.

My FSS is now set at a fixed 10,000 miles service interval and NOT the original 13,000 flexible reading. Mercedes did this when the car was serviced and got a software update, I am going to complain about this to Mercedes since they removed a feature from my car without my permission!

I am still on my original brakes. 60% left on the fronts and only 20% left on the rears.

Both my batteries are still the original ones. I just tested the auxiliary battery and it was still reading OK (220 CCA, which is over the 170 CCA it is supposed to have), but it needed some water. The battery in the trunk is still testing at more CCA than what it is rated for (I think it was a 960 CCA and it is testing at 1,100 CCA) and is sealed, so I don’t/have not ever done anything to it.

I can’t get more than 25,000 miles out of tires! OEM Continentals (21,000 miles) all 4 were down to the TWI, so surprise since I am not a big fan of Continentals. The BFG G-Force, OK tire, but they are almost bald at 22,000 miles! My Bridgestone Blizzaks are just about to the TWI for snow (4mm) at 24,000 miles. I just ordered the new Michelins with tread wear warranty; I am hoping to get some money back. I don’t see how my brakes can last so well (longer than on any other car I have had) but my tires get warn so quickly. I do drive at high speeds when I am on the highway (90-100 MPH) but this is not a problem on my other cars’ tires.

Other than that, I have to admit I am nitpicking here. I am still under warranty until August 2011, so I am going to see what else I might be able to catch early. This car has not been any kind of nuisance since I get these things fixed when it is in for service anyway. The car is in PERFECT condition and does not have one rattle or weird noise. It has bee quite good actually. I plan on keeping it for a lot longer. I am hoping to get 100,000 miles out of the rear breaks and 10 years out of my batteries.

Next on the horizon for service are:

A second fluid change for the differentials, transfer cases and transmission.
Spark plug change (even thought they are still ok)

What were the symptoms of your problems? Mine sometimes shifts a little late and all the dealer says is that it might be the control module which is a $3,000 repair. They have been off (always on the expensive side, how funny) with their diagnostics, so I am trying to learn here.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I the sag is in the rear you probably have a leak in the air spring and need replacement. Mine failed at 80,000 miles.
