LED lights in the new york area ...

All kidding aside, There's an open and timely discussion in the W211 AMG sub-forum.
They found a nice and tidy plug and play no-error solution:

$50 shipped. DIY is as easy as unscrewing the housing covers and replacing the bulbs. Your owner's manual outlines the procedure.
I have this very same bulb type on my 06 325i (apparently there is cross-compatibility). These were the first error-free plug-n-play solution for pre-08 E9X as well (there were many attempts before that).
I just ordered a set for my W211, can't wait to have them as I loved them on my BMW.
The LEDs I got from AutoLuminations were supposed to be plug & play too. They are PnP for a lot of models, but for the '07 they weren't. So, I ordered their capacitors which eliminated the error codes, the flashing and not-turning-on at all:
$10 for 2 load equalizers including the wire taps.
$20 for 2 39mm 9-element LED Festoon bulbs.
Good customer service there also.
Hold on for a while until I get them. I'll write a detailed review along with my own install guide/tips. They should be PnP and they should work based on my experience on my BMW (which was a difficult application to begin with).

DIY is pretty easy so no point going into details. Its per page 446 of the 07 owner's manual. Simple unscrew (2 screws each).
However the lens didn't just drop down on its own. Half the bulb holder assembly is the lens cover itself. I had to use 1 of my plastic interior pry tool to jimmy the lens cover out. Don't use too much force or you'll break something. Just wiggle it here and there and try to pry it loose (I started from the outside first and worked on the other sides in turn).
Once that's out, replace the stock bulb with one of ECS led bulbs and replace lens cover back into the receptacle. Don't screw it back on yet. You need to test it.
Go on and turn on your car and lights. IF the bulb doesn't light up the first time, undo everything once more and reverse the polarity of the bulb (switch it the other way). I had to do this for both side. I guess the W211 is more finicky, I don't remember my BMW E90 being this sensitive.
Repeat for the other side.
The good news is that it works! Pure plug and play!! NO ERROR!!! Another fine product from ECS. Good job.
Now to wait until dark to start taking pics!
So far so good, for those on the fence I recommend you guys look into these bulbs.
update: finally got to enjoy it in the dark. Wow, its pretty bright. LED bulbs emit a cool 6000k glow around the license plate area. Attached is crummy iphone pic.
