I'm scared of SBC pump failure - Any precautionary measures to avoid this ?
I came accross a few stories of SBC failure, and how guys pulled onto the shoulder with foot on the parking-brake and someone upshifted the gear etc ... this is in the event when there's margin infront of the driver .... What if there isn't & you need to say stop on a red light ? Its our life on the darn SBC pump
Question to all Gurus, how can I prevent this failure ? Is there a specific period after which I should swap out the pump -or- would it show signs of failure prior to failing (If yes, what are they)
I guess this (SBC failure issue) would top the charts when it comes to Benz unreliability
Just use the car.
This happened to us while driving very slow in traffic and we pulled over to the side and called MB for a tow truck. The entire SBC system on our car was replaced under the MB warranty.
So this is not a joke or myth. While my car was at the dealer another came in with the same problem. So I would not discount this as infrequent. I noticed you had a 2007. I didn't think the 2007 had the SBC, I thought MB dropped it in 2006.

I had my pump replaced at 53,000 miles under warranty. The thing began making a lot of noise. So took it to the dealer and he just said they'd swap it out.
