PM user Mister Brenton. He can get you the OEM part for peanuts and the install takes exactly 98 seconds. Tell him I sent you and it will either:
(a) Entitle you to a very good price
or
(b) Add 40% to his normal pricing.
It's kind of a crap shoot.

Just pull it out slowly but with a strong grip. Be sure to hold onto as much of the cup as possible when pulling, and it will come out. I had this issue with my cup holder before I bought the car, and it was stuck from coffee stains from the previous owner. All I did was force that summamabit*h out and called it a day. If you're gonna buy a new one anyways, then force that sucker out. If it doesn't break, you just saved 70 bucks.

to open and close and close it slowly so it doesn't jam.

My wore out a couple of months ago. I yanked it out and took it apart easily to clean it but couldn't get it to work. Actually, I couldn't get the spring back in. I ended up ordering a new one from parts.com. Glad I did....its brand new and free of any potentially harmful bacteria from old drink stains.
The only difference (both OEM) is the original one had a silver base to the cup holder whereas the replacement part is a plain black bottom. (Not the flipped open holder the hole created by the pop-out).
