W rated tires
I forgot to mention my car came with 'W" rated Continentals. Took delivery this week. I guess my CPU is set at 155 mph.
Never ever going to find outwhat the car will run flat out, but I was sure I would get "H" rated as that is what the invoice says
I sure am not driving over to the dealer to ask him to switch them out !....
Tires are stamped "W" right on the sidewall incorporated into the sizing.
Are all new deliveries now with "W's" ?

The E500s in California came with both H and W rated tires. The W rated tires came with the Sport Package, while the H rated tires came with non-sport E500s. I specifically preferred the H rated tires for better ride and tread life. Some switching of tires goes on at the dealer. My car came with Continentals, and I preferred Michelins, so my dealer just switched them for me. So somebody that was supposed to have Michelins will now have Continentals.

I tried to get the dealer to switch mine to Michelin because of many years of good driving on Michelins but no dice. I always have heard Conti's wear fast even if you drive them easy.
Not so on Michelins for me. I always get great life out of them.
Speaking of tires- What pressure are you folks running cold? 26 frt 32 rear as on the sticker in door jamb? Seems soft on the front to me..
Most tires do better at full inflations over lifetime....

I agree on the Michelins. I had Z rated on my CLK 430 and loved them. I have not been that impressed with the Conti's but it could just be that they are harder H rated than the Michelins.

By the way, my understanding is that Michelin does not make H rated tires in 17". So if you have an E500, which all have 17" wheels and not 16" wheels, then you either have Continentals that are H-rated or you have W-rated Michelins (or W-rated Continentals or Pirellis?)
Anyway, I know more about tires than I want to because I had ordered the 17" sport wheels with H-rated Michelins as an upgrade (at a cost of $2,000 installed, by the way). They showed up chromed (which I didn't want) with Continentals. At that point, I had already driven on the 16" standard E320 wheels with Continentals for a couple of days and it turned out that I really liked the look (didn't like it so much in photos). Anyway, about that point my dealer and I both learned that Michelins don't come in 17" H-rated. If anyone knows anything to the contrary, I'd love to hear about it. They changed my 16" Continentals for 16" Michelins, I got my $2,000 back, and I've been happy ever since (but still look kinda longingly at those gorgeous 17" sport wheels!)

Wish I had those Michelins.
Case in point- Tonite I replaced the tires on my "work" truck Suburban. Tires had a certified 71,100 miles on them and had 4/32's tread left.
Keep the inflation up to sidewall psi, rotate, rotate and keep balanced. I always get extraordinary wear from a Michelin. Never (knock knock) had a failure either. And I can get these puppies warmed up pulling trailers across Texas full of file cabinets and paper. (It's a long story....LOL)
Now I certainly know that at 65-70,000 miles those tires are tired and worn, but by comparision, my wife runs some Dunlop "W" rated sport series on her Lexus SC400 and despite all the care and attention I have put into them , and she is careful, all I get is 30-32,000 miles ...... And they ain't cheap!

Anyone out there that got a new W211 with Sport pkg equipped with W-rated tires who now wishes they had traded out for H-rated tires at delivery? The only drawback to the sport package IMO is the complaints about quick wear and road noise with the W's. Thinking about trading for H's at delivery but only if the problems (esp road noise) are significant.

I think the noise is slight but not any annoyance. I would have switched at delivery but in all honesty, I thought they were H's and didn't ask!
Sure do corner good these w's!
Beside I may need that extra MPH someday Just kiddin
