I have same problem here the command system unit build in Japan and it is completely different
Please help me to know:
1- how can get to the engineering mode?
2-there is some after market command unit in the market but if you want to change it you have to bypass amplifier and I don't want to do that.I heard there is a small box that you can connect fiber optic to that and keep the amp in your system.
Any body know? I heard it is like convert or or adaptor between after market command unit and amplifier .

As far as I know Japan spec COMAND doesn't have an engineering menu. What do you think you gain by having access to it?
Changing language for map,what about bypass amplifier ? Do you know any device to keep amplifier in changing head unit because the after market head unit not support fiber optic but I heard there a box to connect head unit and amplifier together wires from head unit and fiber optic from amp connect to it and it is work and connect both together
I have a 2007 S211 Mercedes manufactured in Germany for European market(AFAIK, my COMAND head unit is manufactured by Becker). Am I correct that my current firmware version is 30/06? According to "SW Ver.HU" field in engineering menu it looks like so:
While I have the Mercedes Service CD version "W211 589 14 22 00", I have heard that there are even newer versions available like "W211 589 15 22 00" or "W211 589 16 22 00". What is updated in those newer releases compared to "W211 589 14 22 00"? Does anybody have access to those newer firmware versions?

COMAND update has nothing to do with navigation map DVD. Bug fixes only with newest version of COMAND update. 46/06 doesn't have MP3 playback nor ETA info. This came with 30/06.

I wrote it on my iPhone and made a mistake. 15/04 and 17/04 and even 40/06 are without ETA display and mp3 playback. 30/06 and up incl. 46/06 have the 2 features. All updates after 30/06 have bug fixes only. No new features. The last official update also fixes and adds new Satellite Radio Channels.

Did you mean that all updates after 46/06 have bug fixes only? In addition, if you say that COMAND head unit version has nothing to do with navigation map version one can use, then what determines which map version is compatible with my car?
COMAND is COMAND and gets updated with its own update CD through the single slot drive. Maps DVD goes inside the nav processor in the trunk. Each map DVD has a firmware update on board. Once you insert a newer map DVD an update check starts to determine whether the nav processor needs an update or not. You can see this by looking at your COMAND screen. You will see two progress bars moving. If they only move a little bit no update is needed and it exits the update routine.
There are DVDs for different car models. You have to make sure it's compatible with your E-Class. That's all.

No you don't need engineering mode if you don't plan to **** up your COMAND. UK uses Euro updates. And yes I have them to answer your PM.
Hit SERV. If you see one car you might want to update. If you see 2 cars you're good. No matter what version is installed if you see 2 cars there is no need to update honestly. They all contain only bug fixes except the latest one. This one only has an updated Sirius Channel list that might be necessary if you have SDAR.
