COMAND HEAD UNIT software update to enable MP3
I own a W203 Sport Edition, MY05 and made in South Africa. Bought it from a friend, it is from UK and brought it to Msia in 2009. After reading this thread,
may I know, is it possible to update the W203 COMAND software in order to get the MP3 menu and if it is possible, where can I get any links to download the update file?
FYI, my Head Unit is like this, http://www.magazinulauto.ro/poze_pro...las%202006.jpg
Thank you so much and have a nice day.

oh and US map updates?.. I have the original 2004 USA DVD
2004 w211, e320, US model
530- COMAND DVD APS USA WITH NAVIGATION
Thanks much..
I'm guessing quarters.. (I've been finding them everywhere else so..
)I'll pull it tomorrow and check it out and post if I get it working..
BTW, once the "quarters" are removed, during normal ops, even though I have the multi-disc changer it should still play CDs? Or does the multi-changer disable it. (my guess, it should play)

the 2004 e class is set up on a fiber optic loop. if one component isn't showing up/broken/removed from the loop you will get a shutdown.
there's something called a fiber loop tester that people smarter than i use to troubleshoot this system. it allows you to remove and test components or some deal like that.
also, if youre thinking you can go to Best Buy and load a new aftermarket system in there, that's another impossible task. i think it may be true with speakers also. if you wanted to revamp the player, the entire car has to be rewired. there's also no aftermarket wiring harness available so it's all freshly run wires. i got a ballpark for rewiring of $1000 for just labor.
one upside i heard about recently is dealers and specialists with the Star reader or whatever it is supposedly can deactivate items from the fiber loop. my current situation, my nav drive died of seminatural causes (not upgrading or anything) and killed my system. im likely going to go to the dealer or a specialist and have them just remove the nav from the loop electronically. not sure if that will work, but my local euro guy who doesn't have high tech equip says it can be done and should be under $200. just an fyi.
this might not pertain to you, but definitely educate yourself on the fiber loop before unhooking components.

One quarter (2005)
One dime (2004)
and one penny (2001)
inside the cd player and between the cd player and radio. Guess its been a few years since the cd player worked.
LOL..

Updated and now it plays CDs and MP3s.
The update works but may not the latest. looks like 40 06
The the nav radio and cd functions are much faster now. Powers up faster.
Note: it took about a 15 minutes to enable /recognize the new update and play MP3s.
Additional Note: It also plays MP3s on DVDr media
(Does not play Video, the update may have actually disabled it.
I remember seeing DVD/Audio CD flash screen when loading previously... while the coins were stopping the playback.. I updated the firmware after repairing the player and before trying to play DVD Video
) Someone mentioned Dual Layer DVDr discs.. I'll be trying that as well.
So now looking for firmware that re-enables dvd playback.
A low priority but interesting nonetheless.
updated...
