Guess I was thinking that was the list for the 06 version (which I guess my car already has).
Since it has been dealer serviced, I am guessing that it does not have the 08 version.
Now, off to find the thread on entering engineering mode so I can check the version.

please help me
Mercedes COMAND HEAD UNIT Service CD W211 589 14 22 00
This is for 2003-2006 models with command unit.might also work for 2007-2009 yr model
use google
Use this CD to update the COMAND Head Unit to software version 46/06.
Unzip the archive and burn all of the files onto a regular CD-R disc, making sure that your software finalizes the disk when it's done. I use NERO, and on NERO it is listed under the "burn" tab on the verification screen just before the CD starts burning.
Once you have the CD, power up your COMAND unit, briefly hold down 1,3,8 at the same time, and the service screen should come up asking you to insert the CD. Insert the CD and the update will begin automatically. VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT CHANGE SETTINGS OR TURN IGNITION ON OR OFF DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS.
Once the CD is done updating, it will eject the CD and the COMAND unit will restart itself. That's all there is to it.
My unit is a 2005 version, and I cannot attest to weather this will work in other versions, but I have read that it will work on all COMAND units.
If you do not have the Nav module, then this should still update your audio SW... but only if you have the COMAND Head Unit (the one with the large screen). If you have the smaller unit, I think it's called the Audio 50 (but don't quote me on that), then I don't think this will work for you.
Also, this IS NOT a map disc. This is simply the SW update for the COMAND system itself. This update will add a few features with the Navigation module (i.e., adds the ability to display ETA at the bottom of NAV screen) if you have it installed, but it also updates other audio items as well, like the ability to play MP3 discs.

Looks like this is still an active thread, so Ill post away:
I have a 2004 E320 with navigation. I was able to get into the Engineering Menu by holding "mute" then pressing "serv" and "end" all at the same time. I pressed "1 4 7" at the same time and the secret menu came up. I went in the backdoor menu, and didn't see any options regarding mp3s at all. Just a 2 or 3 things that looked dangerous... (if anyone needs it, I did use "1 3 8" at the same time to get the update disc option. also was able to see the distracted driving menu.)
Anyone know what I can check or do to see if I can get the mp3 option? Ideally, Im trying to get a data DVD of mp3s to play, but if this is impossible on this year's model, Im fine not pursuing.
Also, the car was purchased in June 2004, so I'd imagine it's an early 2004, late 2003 hardware/software.

And yes it is "dangerous" playing around there not knowing what you're doing. I'm saying this for years bc I had to replace numerous COMAND from people who bricked it. There is really nothing that will make your COMAND a computer or your car a spaceship if you go into EM.

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of. I've read a lot of posts about people having issues with that. If it was something I could reset if it didn't work, I'd be more inclined to try. All the hardware, software and different types of Comand, US/UK seem a little over my head to do on my own.
Changing a dialog box in the EM seemed within my scope of risk.
Is a firmware update something a MB specialist would do? (I can find that out myself, but just wondering what recourse or other avenues might be available.)
