2007 E550 4Matic - breaks and rotors

Car needs new rear breaks and rotors according to stealership. Figure I should upgrade while at it - probably for less when completing at independent shop. Will E55 set up fit? what about E63?

FYI i have stock 17" fat fives.

Curious, how many miles on your brakes?

You should be able to tell whether or not the brakes need replacement by the feel in your foot. Just because they say it needs to be done doesn't mean squat unless you agree with the car's decreased braking ability.

Great idea.....wait to replace your brakes until they are metal to metal and stop working....

Yes you can do that.

However I normally pull the wheels and measure the remaining pad thickness. If it is .125" I will replace the pads. Don't remember the exact MB spec not at my normal computer. But .125 1/8" is the lowest I will allow any pads on any of my vehicles to go and normally replace them sooner. I found that when the + shows in the FSS for the front the first wire loop was cut and for me I have about 20,000 miles more driving before I need replacement. My front rotors have 98,000 miles now and on the 3 rd set of pads. I measured my rotors and next pad change I will install the new rotors I planned to use at the last pad change but didn't due the the rotors being well above the wear limit.

That's not what I said! You can easily tell the difference in the feel well before that happens and well before it becomes unsafe.

Anyone know the answer to my question - can I upgrade rotors when changing or are they too large to fit behind the 17" rims?

AMG Rotors will not fit on your car because it is a 4-matic. The only rotors you can upgrade to are drilled or slotted if you don't already have them.

no difference on these cars than any other. YouTube brake disk replacement. Only thing different is caliper bolts may use a 9mm hex. Caliper bracket bolts can be very very tight so good luck with leverage. Pad swap easy though

Is there any special trick with removing the caliper or is it just much simpler than I am making it
