2007 E550 - Any way to get Bluetooth audio streaming?
Is there any Mercedes official parts I can get to add Bluetooth audio streaming to my car? I don't want to swap out the audio deck and install a bunch of aftermarket ****.
Thanks,
E
I'm working to find a low-tech solution to use the "Aux" input, found in the glove compartment.
My latest idea is to:
- have an installer put a mini-USB plug in my glove compartment tied into the cars power supply
- purchase an A2DP/Hands Free bluetooth receiver
- plug the receiver into the mini-usb plug to provide power
- plug the audio out of the receiver into the mini 3.5" jack in the glove compartment.
The issues I found with this:
1) Many receivers are music audio only (Blackberry Music Gateway / Belkin Music Gateway) and I like to use the car stereo for phone calls as well
2) I would need to open the glove box every time I want to turn on the music device - they aren't on automatically once powered up.
Hope this post spurs some ideas from other folks.
I don't think I would want to go the bluetooth route if that is how music will sound. I suppose it is possible that ringtones are much lower quality than full MP3s which is why there is a difference but I would hate to spend lots of $ only to find that I was better off with the wired connection.

Basically, the inverter plugs into the 12V DC outlet under the dash in the passenger side footwell, then the reciever is plugged into that. The power wire runs behind the plastic into the glovebox, and the reciever is velcro-stripped into the inside of the glove box. The output from the reciever then runs into the AUX input. Due to the position of the 12V DC outlet and the small size of the inverter, it is barely even noticable, and since the wires are all hidden, it's a pretty damn good solution for about 30 bucks.
The downsides are that you can only control music from the iphone, not the head unit, and also I am not aware of a similar unit for non-Apple phones/MP3 players.
