Service B

I have an 08 E350 and I have 35,000 miles on it. A message just popped up today saying that service B is due in 30 days. Does anyone know what is involved with service B?

I've read my manual and the service manual and I cannot find anything about service B.

I bought this car CPO in February of this year and it had 27,000 miles on it when I bought it and had just been completely serviced.

This is the first service message that I have gotten on it since I've owned it.

Any help would be appreciated. I just want to know whats involved with service B because from what I understand, it will be due for a pretty major service when it hits 39,000 or 40,000 miles which will not be too far off since I have 35,000 already. I dont understand why I would have to take it in for service B now and then again in a few more thousand miles for a major service.

Just did Service B on my C350. Same engine, so I imagine it's much the same: oil and filter, lots of checks, not much else. I call it my $371 oil change! 39,000 requires a transmission service per Mercedes. Just had that done on E550 for about $800. Maybe your CPO warranty requires all services?

Do you know for sure when the last oil change was done.

It may have been done 11 months ago and the car sat for awhile until you purchased. Or if the dealer did a oil change at the time you purchased they may not have reset the Service Indicator.

The oil was changed just before I bought the vehicle. It had 27,000 miles on it when the oil was changed.

So from what I am hearing, the B service is just basically an oil change and checking certian things.

Maybe they did not reset the indicator then.

Your manual specifically tells you that Service B represents 2 hours of work. There are no specific items associated with that.

I assume that you are reading a 2008 E350 manual? What page is that one because I cannot find any information about service B.

What he is also implying is that you should forget the B designation (forget all the alpha service designations) because it is internal to the dealership and only represents the hours of labor associated. Use your maintenance manual as your service guide and go by time and mileage (the number of hours can help you determine labor costs for that service, although the dealer will tell you that, too.) The services are now based on time and 10k mile intervals and not FSS.

Since you're not the original owner, have the dealer check the VMI to see what was done in the past. That way you can start with a new slate, knowing what's been done already. And you really should change brake fluid every 2 years despite mileage (some owners don't even though it's recommended by MB.)
