2005 E320 CDI
Hello All

Greetings everyone, after an accident in my 2003 C32 AMG, I decided to get a car with better gas mileage and comfort...

I bought a 2005 Silver E320 CDI yesterday, it's in decent shape, with 84,000 miles. The E is definitely different than the C.

From what I had read, these cars should last forever! I'm new to diesels, so this is a learning experience

hi there. Congrats on the purchase. What kind of real time mpg are you getting with the CDI? I'm considering to get a diesel some time soon and would love to see some real numbers.

On the way back from Oakland I averaged about 34.X mpg, but this included a significant amount of city driving during the test drive. Average speed was 31mph.

So far I haven't seen it drop below 23mpg (even when cold). This is the first tank I've had the car for, so it will probably change after I drive it for awhile and get used to the vehicle.

While it's no AMG, the car can definitely get moving quite fast, especially considering the fuel economy. If I''m not careful I find myself going 90mph on the freeway (when passing). Though the C32 did 130 in the blink of an eye.

My 06 E320 CDI will get 39-42MPG during straight interstate driving and that range varies with the up and down grade of the road. Combined city highway is about 30MPG. Colder weather and the MPG will go down a little. The winter Diesel fuel blend also contributes to the reduced MPG -- some winterized fuel has less energy content. Best mileage run I have had was from Wash., DC to Outer Banks, NC in August running with cruise control and A/C at 65MPH --42.3 MPG

I am adjusting to the living-room-level of comfort of the w211 . All those small potholes I routinely dodged in my amg have little effect now.

I averaged 35 mpg going over HWY 17 to Santa Cruz this past weekend, not bad for some speedy mountain highway cruising.
