Oil level - Visit workshop...

Hi Gentlemen...

That's the message I got during last week, not too fun.

It was some -25 C outside and since that the message appears everytime I start the car for more than 5 minutes. Since that I also can't read the oil level in the engine at all, I tried yesterday for a couple of hours and it didn't want me to have it so here comes the 10 grand question:

Is the oil level sensor faulty or is the whole damn car faulty..?
Is there any way to check the sensor for funktion other than by trying to check the oil level in the engine..?
Is the sensor replacable whithout draining the engine for it's presious oil..?

I'll start whith those quests and we'll see what comes up after that...

...........**Thanks**.

Regarding the removal of the oil sensor, all documentation recommends removing the oil prior to removal of the sensor.

On older models there are voltage and resistance values to check the sensor, however on the W211 I could not find that data and believe the information is incorporated within the DAS Xentry diagnostic software. Enjoy the holidays.
Hi Plutoe..

Thanks for Your responce. Unfortunately the V8 in my car doesn't have a dipstick so I can't check the level by that.

I looked up some pics of the engine and the sensor seems to be installed from above of the oil pan on the right side of the engine, it should be replaceable whithout draining the oil...(I hope).

However I'm going to the workshop on thursday and let them make a diagnostic to see what's wrong whith it.

**Happy Holidays** to You too.

.........**Thanks**.

check oil level

I was driving round trip to Ohio this weekend and the "check oil level at next fillup" message came on after about 800 miles of 75 mph driving...it continued to come on for the rest of the trip when I got home with 1031 miles.

Now the message is gone...it seems to only come on after long hard trips. It has done this before...oil level is fine in the car.

Any suggestions? thanks.

Hi..

It seems that You have the same dilemma that I have, unfortunately...

I believe that my sensor is frozen to pieces and have to be replaced, I'll get that verified tomorrow by making a diagnosis.

........**Thanks**.

Can the sensor be changed from outside the engine or does the pan have to be pulled?

I believe the sensor can be replaced from outside whithout removing the pan however I'm not quite sure.

In my case though it seems that the sensor is okay but the small battery is not, can't believe how much errors I had on my car regarding electrics. So the next issue to adress is the small battery in the front of the car, hopefully that'll cure my strange errors.

........**Thanks**.

After I replaced the backup battery the oil level alarm disapeared and the car works fine, it measures the oil level whithout objections too...

At the same time I'd like to wish You All a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.
