W211 Installing a 12V socket in the trunck

Hi everybody, I need your help

I wish to install a 12 Volts socket in the trunk.

I intend to connect a home made cable on the "Prefuse" unit in the trunck where there is a free slot as Reserve.

Which additional parts do I need to buy?

Is there any necessity to "programm / set" anydata with Star or is it just a connection?

Thanks in advance.

I don't see a need to "programm / set" anything. Use an approproate cable for the fuse amperage.

Thank you pinebaron for this quick reply.

Mu thoughts were on the fact that some devices are de-activated in case of electric energy problem.

May be it can be that the unnecessary equipements are deactivated at unit level and not at fuse level.

About cable section it will be 4mm2 (to my knowledge it can withstand 25Amps) i.e much more than the fuse limitation I will install (10Amps).

Regards

I was thinking of installing one of these in my other car. E350 wagons come with a rear cargo area 12 volt outlet as standard, so you can always get one of those and install in your trunk.

Here's a used one I found on Ebay which is listed as a trunk 12 volt outlet for a VW 1998-2005 Jetta/Passat. Looks like it has a backing plate so you don't pull the whole outlet out of the trunk lining by accident.

Why not just come directly off the battery properly fused and wired of course.

My e500 already has one in the trunk. Was this an option?

I never checked our e320

Thank you pinebaron, very usefull pictures.

Usually it is an option.
Was the socket original from factory?

How is it attached to the body? would you have a picture?
Do I need to drill?

I see that your car has a real wheel as spare. Which size is the tyre?
Could you post pictures of the attachements? I intend also to get rid of the tyre kit.

And I need to turn 90 degrees the battery. Is your car equipped with a large capacity battery (it is longer sized).
Here is the link to project

Thanks

Was the socket original from factory?: Yes

How is it attached to the body?: It's factory installed into the left side trunk trim.
I have several pictures on how to remove the trim, traverse the photo thread and fire away questions about specific photos (p104xxxx etc.)
Four additional pics of the 12V socket with three from the inside

Not that it matters to you but this one is how to unplug the OEM since it's not always obvious:

Do I need to drill?: I would use a hole cutter to make a neat circular cut into the side trim. The trim material is fairly rigid nevertheless not metal, hence requires a level of care while pulling/handling/etc., you would not want to break it.

I see that your car has a real wheel as spare. Which size is the tyre?: I still have the OEM tire, it is a donut wheel, I've never had to use it fortunately. I have staggered wheels/tires on the car but the donut is really for an emergency.

Could you post pictures of the attachements?: You can download pictures from my "Aftermarket Speaker and Amplifier" sticky in the audio section : https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...-pictures.html or directly

Many Thanks again pinebaron .

I see how the socket is hold. I was expecting it to be on the metal sheet behind the trim.
I already bought the socket now I will need to buy the connector. Would you have the reference?

Going back to the spare wheel. May I ask the size of the Tyre? It should be of the same diametre than the normal wheel?

For the battery have you pictures of its attachment onto the floor and to the side.

Thanks in advance

Spare Tire is 155/70 R17 though wheels/tires on the vehicle are all 19"

Thank you pinebaron, great pictures. Exactly whart I was expecting.
For the wheel diametre should be OK they are all the same: 155/70 R17=> 648 mm, 245/35/19=> 654 , 275/30/19=> 647mm, my wheels: 245/45/17=> 652mm,
Now remains to check the height.

Coming back to the 12V socket. Can some body, who has access to the EPC, help I need the reference of the harness that connects the socket to the fuse.

In advance many thanks
