Hi folks. I used the search function and I know that there are filters for the cabin air intake, but I'm a little confused about what other filter there may be.
My issue is that I bought this car a month or so ago, and it still has a bit of an odor from the previous owner and the deodorizer that the dealer used. I want to swap out the filters, and I found this great thread here that lists all the stuff that you need to service the W211. However, the author lists the following:
3 Every 30,000 miles or 2 years - Replace combination filter
4 Every 30,000 miles or 2 years - Replace dust filter
6 Every 60,000 miles or 5 years - Replace activated charcoal filter
So, according to this, are there are 3 filters? I know that the fresh air intake filters are in the engine compartment, so where are the other ones?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I could go to the dealer I'm sure, but why spend $300 for something that I can do myself for $50?
Thanks!

I know there's a pollen filter (a/k/a combination filter) and two engine air filters (change every 4 years for 2008's). I don't know whether the dust filter is the same as the engine air filters, but the fact that it's listed as having a 2 year replacement interval makes me wonder. I never heard of the activated charcoal filter.Originally Posted by beemer guy

Thanks all, for the replies. My car, with the two zone, just has the one filter, so that's easy.

To remove the odor I removed the filters, a/c on sprayed Lysol spray into the blower so it could disperse through out the entire under dash plenum. I turned it all off, closed up the vents and blower and let it sit over night. Also be sure the drain below the evap is open and not trapping water.

Under the car bottom of ac duct you will see a rubber bellows device about 1" diameter that can stick closed. Some cars also have one on DS of car but I know every one I have seen was PS under evaporator box. Just squeeze it open check for sticking plugging.Originally Posted by john0183
