EXHAUST QUESTIONS!

ok so I replaced my resonator with a 2.5" x pipe but that shop didn't want to remove second cats,so as the other 5 shops i called...thet ssid NJ law...cant fo it.the car sounds amazing with just x pipe....but i want just a tat louder not like a civic or a mustang but just a little more.so my plan is to cut the cats out myself have some pipe to piece back the exhaust together and drive to the repair shop to get jt welded,or get some kind of mufflers to rellace the stockers.so my question is,if i remove the cats also will it get way to loud and raspy and sounds like a beat up fox body,or it will be nice and exotic?also how is the drone with that setup.2nd cats delete+x pipe+stock mufflers
VS leave all the cats alone +x pipe+ some random aftermarket mufler that will fit there like magnaflow or borla??has anyone soon?if yes what mufflers did u make and

Haha you just have to learn to understand the way he speaks. You do seem a bit lost on what to do though so he wasn't really trolling on your thread. I would suggest you start off with x pipe and muffler delete. Try not to mess with cats anytime soon. AMGaffalterbach has a good thread on this.

Or you could spend a couple bucks and go choose the route i took with x pipe and c63 exhaust. Sounds pretty dam good on the outside and quite nice on the inside.

that's kind of what I wanted to hear...LOL.i was wondering if I can make any other miffer work there?for example borla has a good mufler that will fit there and its reversed side inlet/outlet so the tips will be easy to line up,can I use something like that?

Lemon actually beat me to it hahaha I need to step up my game. I completely concur with him though, I'd either do the muffler delete and x-pipe, or x-pipe and C63 muffler, from every car I've heard with a secondary cat delete (unless it's totally straight piped setup and sounds like a muscle car) it's sounds too raspy. I get the comment a lot that just the muffler delete alone sounds great and it's quiet at cruising and under light acceleration but is LOUD at WOT, however I can't really tell because it's pretty quiet inside.

And Plutoe will always be Plutoe and you have to learn to love him regardless His point was that if you cut out the primary cat you will get a CEL because there is an O2 sensor monitoring the primary cat, the secondary cat you can cut out without issue but once again I don't really see the point if your purpose is going LOUDER.

i get a lot of suggestions about the c63 exhaust but what's so special about it that it can't be replaced by something like borla muffler that fit there can't do???It's hard to believe that absolutely NO ONE have tried this....with other than C63 muffler

My sister has a borla muffler on her 4 banger Scion TC and it's LOUD all the time. The magic with c63 exhaust is that it doesn't get loud unless you go WOT. I don't know how they do it but I love it. It's almost identical to an actual c63 sound.. and everyone knows how insanely good they sound. Cruise down the highway at 75mph and there's literally no drone. I'm not sure how well muffler delete compares but AMGAffalterbach should know everything about that setup.

Then again there's nothing stopping you from actually trying it out yourself then reporting back here.

And yes, Plutoe will be Plutoe. You must learn to accept it.

I would say the muffler delete achieves the same thing, it's very sedate at idle and cruising speed with usually just a deeper note unless you go WOT then it's really loud, but not obnoxiously loud. It probably achieves the same things as the C63 muffler but with a little drone at 1900RPM, however the point of the J-Pipe and Helmholtz resonator is to reduce drone in most of the RPM band and it does so pretty effectively. Not much else to it!

every muffler chamber is built differently. just because a muffler is a muffler doesn't mean it will sound the same lol.

No I'm not saying it does, I'm just saying the concept of it being tame at idle and loud at WOT will probably be similar, obviously with different tones.

I have stock headers secondary cat delete and resonator delete with factory mufflers....car is super quiet while driving with very very minimal drone...when I get on it it sounds good but I want a little more "noise" out of it. I love the sound of the c63 mufflers (exotic raspy sound) but trying to find a set is next to impossible & $1700 new is just insane!
. I have a set of straight through corsa mufflers I am debating of trying out....sounded great on my 06 GTO. Very tame while cruising and loud at WOT.

I would say with my setup now it sound like a stock c5 zo6.

Well your e55 mufflers are one of the quietest AMG mufflers I've ever heard. I'm sure if you can replace them with c63 mufflers they would sound amazing!

I would try the corsa mufflers if you have those available, definitely changing the muffler will change how loud it is and expose more of that natural V8 sound. If you don't like the corsas, you can always cut them out and muffler delete (probably going to be loud af without secondary car or resonators), and if that still isn't what you're after get some C63 mufflers.

Njmax... I have not done it yet. Going to bring it to the exhaust shop sometime this week. I think keeping the factory tips is going to be an issue bc of the single outlet out of the corsa's...will update after I get it checked out.

well you'll have that problem because u have a E55 i have a E550 and my tips are the large oval sigle tips which I like, and if i can change the sound and keep them i will.i'm just curious to see if that's doable since I have te exact same axlebacks like you LOL

So maybe you should do it and let me know how it sounds. You can have the shop make it so you can bolt in the corsa's and factory mufflers just incase you don't like it.....sounds like a plan to me, how bout you?...

I just installed c63 mufflers on my e55 with stock everything else and it's not that much louder! Is it because I need the x pipe done???

If you do both a secondary cat delete and resonator delete with x-pipe on the C63 mufflers it will be LOUD, longtube headers might also get the sound you want. Just a resonator delete alone probably won't make it that much louder.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I can get a W211 E55 AMG Mercedes catback for pretty cheap locally and was wondering if it would fit a E240. I know you don't have this engine in the US but it should be similar as a E320!

Thanks!
