Question Chrome exhaust tips?

Has anyone tried the chrome exhaust tips available from www.formymercedes.com?

I'm thinking of adding them to my '04 E500. Are they easy to install?

Also, do they cause more dirt to accumulate on the rear bumper?

I ordered these and have yet to recieve. I will post my impression when I can. I believe after seeing the same tips you had in the EBay link, in the real flesh so to speak, that the picture is not a good rendition of the tips. If they look good I will keep them on, if not I will be selling them on EBAY myself.

The Ebay link is for a different brand/make of chrome tips. I eagerly await your feedback on the tips when you get them.

The ones posted on e-Bay appear that they just hook directly onto the stock tips -- if this is the case, the only concern I have is that you may see the neck of the add-on.

I would prefer to cut the downward tip off of the stockies providing it can then still clear the rear skirt.

Query on Tips

I emailed the Formymercedes guy and he said the first ones listed are for the 500 and second set listed for the 320.
He was checking with the German Mfg. to see if the bumper needs to be cut. I would have thought he would have known this off the top of his head.............??
I will report back to the forum when he emails me this week.

Derek.

Does anyone have chrome exhaust tip pics on the stock E bumper? I was looking into getting tips or full exhaust but IMO without cutouts in the bumper, I think it would look weird just hanging from the bottom of the stock bumper. If the tips roll up then it might look decent like this pic:

I got the ones from formymercedes.com and really like them.

You can find pix on www.benzcrazy.com

They took a while to adjust, I wish I had more recent pix to show you. Maybe next week.

Thumbs up

Nice shots you did ............are these installed on the E500?
The shots on the formymercedes site look different. Your look smaller and the crook bend can be seen ..........I was hoping for less of a bend side shot.............D.

Instead of just tips, get a real exhaust. You don't need to spend $2,000 for a Brabus, AMG, etc. exhaust. This is a Magnaflow system, fully installed with new performance mufflers for under $600. You get the "look" of the tips, a real nice sound, and maybe a few extra horses... You can easily cut out the rear bumper to tuck the tips under a bit more, but I wanted to keep the bumber stock in case the new owner one day wanted to put back to stock. Here is a few pics...

Magnaflow makes some nice catback exhausts. I know some peeps who have them on their Vettes. How is the sound and is there any droning or resonance? Thanks.

I'm leasing my E500 so I need something that is easily removed to bring the car back to stock for when I turn it back in.

I'd love to do a real exhaust system, but with a lease, just not possible. Or not easily (or cost effective) to undo.

Usually most catback systems are direct bolt ons with no cutting or welding required so real easy to go back to stock. I haven't looked at the W211s exhaust but I would imagine it would be the same by removing the stock exhaust and just sliding in the new exhaust and using the stock clamps.

I took a look at the Magnaflow website but wasn't able to find any info/part numbers for an E500.

Lionhead-- are the exhaust tips on the car you posted, clamp-ons ? If so, where can you get them -- only on e-Buy ?

Also, it appears that they make it under and just above the stock rear bumper.

Do you think the quad-exhaust is better than the single as shown on the formymercedes site.

Im very interested in doing this and also in a lease so dont want to a drastic overhaul, just something for appearance. My main concern is that you do not see the curve of the clamp on from the side view of the car.

Recommendations ?

Thumbs down NO CURVES ON MY LADY BENZ

I fully agree with my NJ expert on curves NREALM.

I like curves in certain places but not from the bottom end of the Benz. I would in my opinion keep it stock then see what looks like a 1960's chrome tip add on from a parts store......My 2 cents.

Derek.

NRealm: The pic is a full catback exhaust system frm MH Dezent and not just tips. I found it on their website at: http://www.mh-dezent.de/frames/index.htm
(Click E Class)

I think I read somewhere this catback exhaust cost $1,800.00.

As far as quad or dual...its just a matter of taste. I had quad ovals on my Vette then changed to triangular than to dual cannons before I sold it.

Clamp On Tips

I purchased a set over eBay and installed them in about an hour. It would have gone faster with another person to help with alignment.

In retrospect, they look kinda clunky for my taste and are coming off.

I've taken the plunge and going to install a set of AMG mufflers.

Good luck.
