I don't have an answer for this. When I installed the new head unit the 6 disc changer in the dash stopped working (it no longer pops out). There must be some solution out there?

I'm pretty sure Expression explains this and his first post?

Awesome thanks. And if I find a solution to the Bluetooth echo on the other end I will let you know. (A solution that does not involve soldering and rewiring the unit)

Wow very nice work! Are you getting a lot of trunk rattle or did you somehow reinforce that so there isn't vibration noise?

Also how is your Bluetooth quality for the person on the other end echo wise?

Very glad I found this thread as my COMAND unit in my 2009 CLS550 just broke (it goes into a reset loop and doesn't boot anymore). MB wants >$5000 to replace it which is insane. I am now looking for a proper replacement and this unit seems to be the best option. As the 2009 CLS550 is the W219 (C219) this unit should fit but neither of the two sources from above list the 2009 CLS550 as a car this would fit in:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Andro...2ef9eaa42c8ec3

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201423007488?rmvSB=true

Is this just an oversight or is there a specific reason why this unit would not fit a 2009 CLS550? Any info appreciated...

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

Do you know which version NTG you got?
NTG2?
Could take a pic possible?
Also which AMP have you got?
Might have to look behind left panel in boot.

Should be NTG2 from recollection think they switched to that from 2007 to 2010.

Cheers

I am pretty sure I have NTG 2.5 (with 6CD changer, not sure about the audio, I think it's Bose). I will take a pic once the car is back from the dealer.

Hi,

Correction: NTG1 and NTG2.5 should be compatible to a degree, but you may need a different harness.

Cheers

Ntg2.5 would work, but you will need to rewrite some of the included harnesses.

Does anyone have fitment issue with the head unit? I cannot get mine to fit flush, as it sits out a little and I cannot figure out what's going wrong. The wires in the back are not getting in the way either.

Got the same issue, stands out by maybe 3-5 mm.
Will take out again shortly and compare with my original NTG1.

Or maybe some wire sticking out at the back will see.

Cheers

I figured it out. You have to cut/grind down a hump of plastic on the dash that's between the mounting holes. It's an square section about an inch, with ridges. Now it fits perfectly flush.

iPhone with lightning cable does not work with the stereo, but I will try using a 30-pin adapter and cable and then it'll probably work.

Is a way to adjust the button backlighting color? I see a backlighting color setting in the factory settings but it doesn't appear to work.

I still need to change the dashboard coding and remove the nonfunctional phone and navigation menus.

There's a different rom that has better support for steering wheel controls?

Does anyone have more info?

I have a 5 channel class D amp installed with the new head unit and it sounds fantastic.

JoeNobody,

I believe you are talking about the Malaysk ROM. There is a looooong thread on XDA with multiple mentions of it. They have branched out some of the forum because of the multitude of brands/manufactures of these units. From what I've been reading, Malaysk has stripped the ROM of a lot of bloatware and has a pretty solid thing going.

Here is the thread. Hopefully that helps.

Has anyone tried installing a front camera? The head unit has a second composite video input, but it looks like some are using USB cameras for the front camera? It would be amazing to get one of the driving lane assist apps to work correctly.

I never got my dvr can to work. I'm not sure if it's a faulty head unit for faulty camera?

I just upgraded to Malaysk and it's so much slicker than the stock rom. Very easy to upgrade too.

Glad to hear that! Care to share a video or two? How will you go about obtaining a data signal? Tethering to your phone or USB device?

The instructions are in the first post of that enormous XDA thread, but basically you just download a 500mb file, copy it to the maps SD card, pop in the card and then on the unit go to Settings -> About -> System Updates, and it'll prompt you to install the rom.

For data I'm using iPhone wifi hotspot sharing. Google maps apps now allows you to download offline maps, so you can use that without bothering with data tethering.

What has been your impression of talking on the phone via Bluetooth? For Whatever reason the audio for the person talking on the other line is horrible. I wonder if updating to this rom would fix that?

For it seems ok. But I noticed when talking to another guy with exact same stereo that I got a strong echo of my own voice.
Suggest to turn down volume.
Also consider using an external microphone
Also keep in mind these unit seem to have an issue with the mic hardware and amp.
For a proper fix u would likely need a hardware mod.
