average Miles Per Gallon - how good

I just hit 1000 miles on my 2004 e320....and to date my MPG has been around 18-20 for mixed driving. I just did my first road trip with the car (150 miles) and I averaged 29.9 mpg.....with an average spped of 68 mph. I was SHOCKED I was only expecting about 22-25 mpg.

I had a similar experience. We took a trip with only 360 miles on the clock and got over 30 mph on cruize at 70 mph.

How the heck?
I have 19s on there so I am a bit off (about 3%) but I have never ever ever done better than 23.6 (25 actual) But that is traveling at speed up to 85.

In the city I typically get around 14-17 (15-18)
Oh an I still have the sluggish tranny problem which sucks.

Drove from Maryland to Hilton Head South Carolina, 4 people, cruise at 80, air conditioner, 550 miles on a tank. Back and forth to work mix driving 14 miles each way 350-400 miles per tank...

With my 500, I have gotten on straight highway trips about 25 mpg, but I average about 10 mpg in a pure city driving scenario (NYC comes to mind), but typically get around 16-17 mpg overall.

21 mpg mainly city. This bigger car gets much better mileage than my 325Ci.

Got Ford Focus as a loaner today. 1.5 gallons for my 72 miles of drive. I can't believe.

I got 17.3 mpg in mostly city driving around Atlanta over the last 1600 miles. If you are familiar with Atlanta traffic, you spend more time driving between 20-50 mph than 50-80mph.
