Question Voice Recognition VCS details?

Hi

I am about to order a new '04 E320 and planning to get a v60 installed.
I tried to find any details on VCS (voice recognition) feature and couldn't find anything (besides the "Feature Highlight" in mbusa.com, which only specifies that it is possible to dial name/number and store name back to phone).

Is anyone familiar and/or using this feature?

Anything else (besides name/number dial) can be controlled by VCS?

Is it really works without usual VR lag/errors?

Thanks in advance.

There are errors sometimes.

You can control the Radio, CD Changer, and CD Player with it.

I wish you could control the Navigation too, but you can't.

I use it mostly to change the CD I'm listening to.

You can tell it to tune to a specific radio station. I'm hoping it will also be able to control the satellite radio once I get that installed.

Looks like this is another discrepancy between European vehicles and those exported to the US.

If VCS is the same option as what we know as Linguatronic then it does indeed operate some of the navigational features.

Below is a quote from the UK Mercedes-Benz site:

"Keep both hands on the steering wheel as you control the audio, communication and navigation systems with simple spoken commands. Linguatronic is an attractive high-tech safety enhancement that enables you to dial telephone numbers and specify your destination without disturbing your drive."

Regards,
John

I do have the new Linguatronic introduced on MY04. There are more then 300 different commands, many of them doeing the same thing but with different commands such as: Dial number, enter number, call name, phone name, etc. I don't have the manual in front of me, but I will give you some more samples later. The Linguatronic works very well, even for me with a terrible English pronunciation.

Hi Oslo,
Trust you to rub salt into my lack of Linguatronic

I didn't really want that option anyway.

I'm glad to hear that the Linguatronic is working, and I am still envious, and mad at my dealer.

Take care,
John

John,

I think it's possible to retrofit the Linguatronic. Probably most of the cables etc. are already there. Ask them for a good price since they fooled you when you tried to order it. I know you're a good negotiater, so Good Luck

I did try and the dealer said it was not possible, Mercedes-Benz UK also said the same thing (hence all the champagne and Port compensation), if you happen to hear anything to the contrary then I would be very interested.

I understand there is a control type lever on the steering coloumn, is this correct?
Also is it the same microphone that is used by the mobile telephone?
I wonder what other external 'thingies' there are!!!

Does the system work better when you speak English, or German?

Bye for now,
John

Lightbulb VCS features

I have it in my 2004 E55 which has V60 and DVD COMAND.

I use it mainly to quickly switch between the CD Player and CD Changer. Instead of selecting Audio and then select CD/CD Changer, I use voice control which is actually quicker.

Regardless whether you're in Radio or Navigation mode, I like to press the lever and say "Call Phone", it will dial it for me.

Unfortunately, no voice command shortcut to have the system jump to map or navigation. And it doesn't select AUX for you either.

A good use - switch radio stations - given no memory presets @ the wheel.

I have been informed that the European version gives even more options to the Navigation system. It would certainly be easier just to give the Post Codes for both the Start of Journey and Destination, without having to take your eyes off the road.

Which cell service provider?

Thanks all to your input.

Does ne1 knows which cell service v60 works on within US, which cell service provider (i.e. what network technology) used in v60 - (CDMA, TDMA, GSM)?

As of right now on the US models the TDMA is for AT&T. The CDMA is used for Verizon and there is no GSM capability. Now, since AT&T and Cingular merged, you might see the TDMA used for that service in the near future. I hope this helps!!

Does it means that any v60 phone (regardless of technology) will be compatible with E-Class COMAND???

Question ?

So it's sounds like COMAND can work with v60 (and I believe with previous Motorola Timeport) phone regardless of the networking used????

The only hitch is the V60 or Timeport must be from MBZ and not just any standard Motorola. Also, make sure that you use the right phone for the year model of the car. In '00 you have to use the Startac, then in '01 they upgraded to the Timeport, then in '02 they went to the V60. The year of the car is very important to the handset that will be acceptable. Also, to my knowledge they do not have a GSM phone that is compatible with the MB's.

I have voice reco with the phone option and you can do stuff like "Dial name" and then say the name that you have associated with a given phone number and it dials it for you. No keying in the phone number. Also, you can say "Dial number" and then 5-5-5-1-2-1-2, but I've found that this usually get's some digits wrong.

Question Navi commands?

I saw posts that European Linguatronic can do Navigation commands as well.
Does it works the same with US version?
