Newb To The Benz World

Hello all, I signed up for a little advice. I find these types of forums a gold mine when one is moving into unknown territory.

I don't own a MB yet but have been eyeing the E class as of late.

I'm primarily a 60's US muscle car type of guy, very mechanically capable and have one basic question. I'm in the market for a new commuter car. I put roughly 25,000 miles a year on my commuters.

I retired a 96 Volvo 850 at 350,000 miles and getting ready to retire a 2002 Audi A6 at 280,000 miles. I am seriously looking at a 2007 or newer E350 as a successor.

Any input as to longevity and how easy they are to work on is greatly appreciated.

Well if you look at the 2007, make sure you check the serial number to make sure it's past the balance shaft problem. 25k is a lot of miles a year, most people don't put that kind of mileage on their cars so it's hard to say how well it will hold up with that high mileage. At a certain point, you'll probably have to refresh the whole front end.

Thanks. I have heard that. It's the one make I am unfamiliar most with. I'm eager to see if it's true.

Yes, that goes without saying for any car. If you push them that far and hard one needs to be prepared to spend a few weekends crawling around them. Hell I even wore out the odometer on the Volvo at ~310K. $20 fix and 3 hours good as new.
Thanks for the input.

go for 2008/09. most reliable yrs for the W211 i reckon. but its gonna be hard to compete with those mileage you got from your volvo and audi unless you get a W124.

2008 is going to be expensive.
I am going to pick up $1300 project tomorrow.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have to say you MB boys are far friendlier than the boys over in Beemer land. Bunch of snobs in my opinion. I have been looking at all options and the first cut from the list has been the Beemers. Not so much because of the online guys but because I doubt the cars are built for the long haul. The beemers are built for boys.
So far in my research, the MBs are built for men with a little class. This is coming from a redneck muscle car guy so take it with a grain of salt.

BTW MJ50, I'm a leg guy too.
