i'd rather see them fix the brakes

they are worse than the streering.

i heard that the rack is in a redesign...possibly addressing the out-of-alignment perception and also making the steering more stiff.

brakes:
i noticed that you're in an '03. are the brakes too sensitive as low speeds?

yep

brake by wire is weird. not only that, i don't like the way the brakes let up for you as you slow. I do that out of habit anyway, and it just creates all sorts mis communication between me and the car.

kind of like my girlfirend... so gorgeous... but so hard to communicate with.....LOL

was '03 E320 - now - '04 S4
Besides the less than stellar electronics - the brakes and lack of steering feel are IMO the worst things about my car.

Haven't driven an '04 - but I've heard they improved the brake feel.

yes..that's why i was asking. your dealer should be able to install or replace a damper part for the brakes to help it seem more solid. the '04's are much better.

but this fix doesn't help the ' by the time i'm stopped, i'm barely pressing the brake'. i too let up on the brakes when coming to a stop..but this car makes you do it...so you tend to make more brake adjustments than with conventional brake system.

E320 2003
Steering lock

Perhaps they are fixing the locking problem we had. Our 2002 E320 steering would lock when accelerating hard and turning, our dealer replicated it, installed a new rack and sent the old one to Germany, never heard back as to what/why/etc. When we ask the dealer, they say they don't know either.

2004 e320 wagon
Question

speaking of brakes, has anyone gotten SBC Hold or SBC Stop to work? the first stops the car on a slope without keeping a foot on the brake and the second brakes automatically when you lift your foot off the gas. just got an e320 yesterday and suspect it doesn't have either feature.

thank god!

if the car automatically breaked when i took my foot of the gas, i'd already have taken it back and told them to rip the damn system out.

never tried the hill thing.

SBC Hold and SBC Stop assist are not available on cars in the US. Europe only. We have to keep doing it the old fashioned way.
