2005 E320 CDI Fuel Filter Hose Size.

Well my fuel line near my fuel filter has developed some cracks in them from age. Does anyone know the size of these so I can order a long roll and just cut to length? I am thinking its just a standard 3/8 however I am not sure with Mercedes and it being a Diesel.

You know those crazy German Engineers used the metric system when they were designing. Have a look at this page, get out your metric calipers, and see what matches up (scroll down to the fuel lines).

Well it turns out the fuel lines are in Metric figures.
The big fuel line that about 6-8 inch long is a AN8, while the other ones are a AN6. Decided to replace the fuel line with Stainless Steel Nylon Braided. Would have gone stainless with stainless but people said online they don't bend as well.

Will take better photos tomorrow have one line left to do the back one near the egr.

Looks nice and they've gotta add at least 10 horses and 30 torques to the butt dyno

Yeah pretty much, just waiting on some wire organizers that should be here today to finish this up. Did I need these ridiculous over kill lines, yes.
Also not going to touch the last line by the EGR, line looks fine plus looks like the biggest pain to remove.

Finally got the hoses in a way I am happy, also I just figured out you can tighten down the fuel filter bracket with a T30 in the back.

Can someone please confirm the hose sizing in mm. i was under the assumption that any AN hose is used for AN fittings. Am i wrong?

Here is a picture of the exact one I used. For the two smaller, longer fuel line that go infront.

No problems other then I tried to re-use the clips from the factory lines and they leaked. Ened up replacing them with those nice stainless steel hose clamps from the auto parts store. Other than that no problems .

FWIW. I had a similar problem and just got the hose and clamps from the dealer. The hoses have a bunch of careful bends and I recall one even has different ID's at either end. I did have to get a special tool to engage the funky hose clamps

regards,
Peter

AN sizes are not metric, used on aircraft in the USA, im sure other applications as well stands for ARMY NAVY. Diameter in 1/16” steps. AN6 =3/8”, AN8=1/2”

When something meets AN specification its of highest quality, and undergoes QA and QC.
A fitting or bolt will be a least 4 times more expensive than non-AN bolt.

i see you used a worm drive clamp on the fuel filter, you should change it out to the Click type from the dealer, they won’t come loose from vibration. I pay $2.00 each. I do not reuse them. They are stainless. But as mentioned you do need special pliers from ebay or amazon.
Hose clamp 14.5-15.5mm 004 997 20 90
Hose clamp 13-14.5mm 006 997 18 90

Yeah, they are probably plated as you mentioned since it's a chain parts store, but they are still working. I don't have the worm clamp anymore that was just to stop the leaking untill I got to the store. All of them have those hose clamps on them.
I didn't get the factory style clamp because the aftermarket hose was thicker then stock, I don't think it will have enough clamping force to stop it from leaking. I can't say for sure since I just went straight to hose clamps .

how much was that hose, you had to buy 20’, 10’ each size?
And next time you are under the cover maybe cut those stainless hose wires before you poke yourself and bleed to death, or worse get an infection and they have to cut off your favorite hand.

I bought 10 ft of the An6 and 1 ft of An8. Yeah I should trim the wires a little better. The price was around $20 now it seems they are $30. If you don't get the blue and black hose and just the black it's around $15.
