W211 door doesn't pop open

I think this might only be for cars with keyless go - when you unlock a door using the keyless go unlock button in the handle, that door shoves off the body of the car a little bit. What is the mechanism to cause this? My left rear door does not shove off like all the rest do.

Do you have keyless go? If you hit the unlock button inside the handle without actually pulled the door, the door doesn't pop back from the car a bit?

That's fine. I figured it out now that I'm back to a computer with WIS. Failure of the Opening Assist Motor.

Well I tried it on mine, when you have keyless go, the doors pop open a little bit once you press the button behind the handle. I think some people just pull on the handle to open the door and that puts pressure on the button so they don't realize that the door pops open a little bit if you just press the button. That's what I normally do now. And yes, both the front and rear doors pop open a little bit after pressing the button.

I do have keyless go, and have never noticed such a thing. Guess I dont notice it because I just pull the handle while pressing the button to open the door... Seems like the logical thing to do I guess?

Well this is the W211 forum. On the W211, there's buttons for the keyless go on the door handle. It's covered by a rubber membrane. There's also a rubber button outside for the lock function. That's why they're $300 when they fail, water gets inside and corrodes the switches.

I'll have to try it on my W212, but I believe that one just uses a sensor. I just put my hand inside the handle and it unlocks and now that I think about it, it doesn't pop open, I just wait til it beeps and then pull the handle. Probably a better design in that the handle is less likely to fail from water damage. Same with the lock function, just a sensor instead of a rubber covered membrane over a button like the W211.

^exactly why i am asking which button it is as I know this is the W211 sub-forum.

now i may be asking another W211 specific question but what is the purpose of this?

I never really noticed it until it was mentioned. I suppose it's just a nice feature. Guess they got rid of it on the W212, just another way that while each model gets some new features, they take away some old ones and some old things that were bad (door handle), they made better and others that were good, they made worse (MB-tex).

Anyway, hope that answers your question.

nice feature in what way?

so you press that "button" then the door cracks open and you still have to pull the handle to open the door entirely?

cant you just pull the door open without having to push that button?

I guess just less effort to open the door. I think on some older models they had a soft close feature but that's long gone.

That button is basically behind the door handle. When you pull the door handle, you end up pressing the button which is how it unlocks. The only reason I press it first is that sometimes it doesn't work, like when the keys are behind the phone. Then I have to dig out the keys and try it again. If you're just pulling the handle, you feel like a noob that the car doesn't unlock. Pressing the button just tells me if it's going to unlock or not. It probably unlocks 95-98% of the time.

I guess it's such a minor feature that I didn't even really notice that it was gone on the W212 til it was just mentioned.

right now i get it. just thought all keyless feature was the same from the get go.

i remember the soft close feature as we had it on my dads W126 (iirc) when i was a kid. thinking about it now, that was a great feature as we dont have to slam the door to close it not to mention it weighs a ton back then.
