3rd Merc joins my stables!
Hi all, I have just tonight signed a deal to purchase a 2005 Mercedes E350 with AMG sport pack.
Is in Brilliant Silver and is an ex Japan model, imported to New Zealand.
Have not seen many like this before here with the Sportpack additions. It has no Star on the bonnet, but in its place is aN AMG round badge. There are also ‘AMG edition’ badges on the front wings, which I have not seen before either.
Has travelled 183,000 kilometres. Also has the shift buttons behind the steering wheel like my E55 has.
I intend to have a go at polishing the headlight covers, and if that doesn’t work, I have two new sets of covers anyway.
I hope to collect this car on Thursday or Friday.
Joins my 2005 E55 and my 2004 E500.

What engine is in that car? Not sure what happened in other markets but if it's the M272, it's probably affected by the balance shaft problem. Anyway interesting to see what they do in other markets, looks like a right hand drive car, they basically swapped things from one side to the other, but too bad they didn't swap the shifter indicators to the other side, you'd have to look on the other side to see what gear it's in.
As for those AMG badges, no idea what they did in other markets, but they never put those badges on non AMG cars even if they had some sort of AMG wheels and you just have the regular wheels although those were more like 2007-2008+ wheels.

Interestingly the vin decoder states that it has mixed width 17 in rims, yet this has mixed width 18’s.
Gearing shows up on the centre dash display when using the gear lever or the steering wheel buttons.

It's just interesting to see what they did when going from the left to the right. Kinda makes you think they designed it for the left and just did the swap to the right in various markets because they just used one part for the shifter for both markets. Post some pictures of the steering wheel and pedals. Now that I think about it, that shifter is from the face lift and I think the climate control and Comand is the older pre-facelift version so maybe the previous owner did a bit of work to it or it was just optioned differently in different countries. The fact that you have 18's instead of 17's probably indicates the previous owner did some work to it.

The stereo unit in it is actually a replacement Dynavin unit, not the original Command setup.
Being ex Japan, it could well have been ‘tarted’ up a bit over there. As far as New Zealand ownership goes, only the stereo unit is a change since in this country.
I will take some close ups of the front guard badges and the one that is where the bonnet Star sits. I may yet swap the AMG bonnet badge over to the E55 and put the Star from the E55 onto the E350.
I will be taking the AMG badge off the right rear side of the boot lid (trunk, for you guys from the U.S. of A)

OP, not just the U.S. of A, but for those among us in Europe and South America also having an AMG badge on a 350 doesn't fly.

I think the SLK guys worked out the failure rate was about 8-9% on those engines for shaft failure. Pretty low and a high chance it would probably have happened and been repaired already if it was going to.
