Help! P0763/Won’t Shift after Valve Body refresh
I decided to try my hand at refreshing the valve body on my 2005 E320 CDI. (About a year ago I pulled the VB to put in a new TCC solenoid. Put it all back together and it was fine.) Well, today I decided to upgrade some parts on the VB, including a Sonnax TCC Damper kit, the Sonnax overlap control kit (3 sleeves), and the Transgo shift kit.) I also put new o-rings on the shift solenoids and put 1 new solenoid for the 1-2/4-5 shift. I reassembled everything, replaced ATF, and I’m having the following troubles: 1) will not go into manual mode, 2) got code P0763 (Shift Solenoid “C”), and 3) when I drive it, it won’t go out of the first gear.
Can anyone give me some ideas of what I need to check/try? Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer.

hey bro you need factory or equal diagnostics and someone you knows how to use to figure this one out. Plus get rid of of all the crap and return the VB to standard

This is not something the forum is going to be able to diagnose. Take it apart and check your work carefully. All those little ***** in the valve body have to be exactly in the correct spot. Or start over with a known good valve body.

I would watch legit street cars on YouTube on his 722.6 valve body breakdown and carefully see if you made a mistake - you did it’s just going to be figuring out where
There’s nothing else to do but pulling it back out at this point and starting again.

I pulled the VB again and double checked placement of all items, including all the check *****, screens, o-rings, etc. While I was in there the 2nd time, I got rid of all the TransGo shift kit parts but I left the Sonnax TCC damper kit and master overlap control kit pieces. I even put in a new conductor plate in the event I damaged the original one in removing it. (While I was in there, I did notice that one of the valves was not movable. Though I did not make any changes to that particular valve, perhaps a small piece of dirt got in there and locked it up. This is one of the problems.) However, it goes into P,R,N,D just fine but won't shift out of the first gear (or it could be second gear that it is in, not sure). I still can't put it into manual mode and it will not switch between Comfort and Sport.
So, I'm trying to find the most economical solution here forward to get it running again. Do I buy a remanufactured VB? If so, do I still need someone with a STAR to clear out old data/codes from this current situation? Is it possible to find know the casting number on this car without dropping the VB? The VIN is WDBUF26J35A539143.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or info you have on this. Maybe someone else can learn from my mistake!

Have someone clear stored/retrieve current codes via Quick test using Xentry (MB diagnostics).

Konigstiger, thank you very much for the docs. Very much appreciated. I see on the Parts Info document that the valve body itself (listed as item "1") appears to have two options, what appears to be p/n A1402700606 and p/n A2112700006. Are the last 4 digits the casting number? and if so, would my car be the A140 part number or the A211 part number?

Need to pull unit to identify which is installed: 1402700606 = MER0606,2112700006 = MER0006

How many miles on your car? My 2007 E550 wouldn’t shift out of 1st either. I had a new conductor plate installed and the problem was fixed. I assume you have the 7 spd transmission?

As a 2005 E320, i have the 5-speed transmission 722.6. Currently I have about 123K miles on it. I put a new conductor plate in but still am having the issue. But I need to get some codes cleared first to see if anything changes.

Unfortunately, everything I tried did not make a difference. In going back into the VB I did find that one of the valves seem to be frozen and I couldn't free it. Without access to tech I need, I broke down and took it to the dealership. They put in a whole new valve body. That resolved the issues. Interestingly though, I still get the " TCC bump" in first gear when the car is cold. In hindsight, I wish I had not tried to add all those valve upgrades. I was comfortable replacing the conductor plate but overstepped my knowledge/abilities in trying to mess around with the valves, etc. It was a good (but expensive) lesson. Good luck to you!
