Lowering the car should not void the warranty. Nice car, by the way.

I can't speak to the best way to lower an Airmatic car because lowering my E500 is somewhere below getting piercings and tats on my personal "to-do" list. There have been various threads on lowering an Airmatic car, though, including this one:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/85628-got-dealer-performing-lowering-via-airmatic.html
... or you can search under "lower" and "Airmatic" or "E500."

I can't think of any nonfunctional mods that "most" forum members do. A common, minor, mod is replacing the stand-up tristar emblem on the hood with a flat badge, available from various sources. Other common cosmetic mods, in no particular order of popularity, include:

- rims and tires
- grilles with a large tristar emblem
- body parts and body kits (like, chin and trunk spoilers)
- bluer-than-stock headlights and parking lights

Actually, it's my wife's ride, just like your E500, so it's not available to me during the school day. Tats, piercings and cosmetic car mods are all a generational thing. People over a certain age (like me) don't go in for them very much. It's your car and your money, though.

The reason for the low response rate is because you bought a family sedan / grocery getter.... Most e class owners knew this going in and are quite happy with the way their cars look from the factory... Now I'm not saying one "pimps there ride" as there are a few members here that have done very nice mods to their cars (lionhead comes to mind) and then there are some that leave the question to ask....why???? DWP gave you a small list of what most are doing these days and I would start there, but there only so much you can do to a four door sedan in my opinion as its not a sports car. If it were my $$$ I'd put it in that vette or truck of yours....

I don't want to sound like I'm slamming people who want to mod their cars because at times I think about how I'd like to change this or change that. I think that sometimes you get caught up in the challenge of making an improvement and it's fun to keep on 'improving' just like you might keep improving on your house.

But I really don't understand lowering, mod'ing the ECU, changing the exhaust, etc. I bought my E500 because it is actually faster than the Boxster it replaced plus it offered all the 'creature comforts' which my wife and I (who are both over 55) are looking for. If you want some of the more serious performance/appearance changes then why not buy one of the AMG's or a Porsche or whatever. Again, I don't mean any disrespect to those who like change just for the fun and challenge of change but I just don't understand some of this. Please educate me.

I guess I can understand that. Keep searching; you'll find a lot of information on these forums. There is no question that this will be a great family car and if you can dress it up to your likes, then that is even better. Good luck and enjoy your car.

Well, let's see. I've always modded automobiles ever since I was 16. Sure the E500 is a family sedan, but it can still look sporty, and can always perform better. I have a Porsche already, but that does not mean that I don't want my E500 to handle a little better and be a little quicker.

I added 19" wheels and lowered it because I like the look. I added exhaust because I like the look and the sound. I have a pulley kit that I haven't installed yet, and will likely mod the ECU. Those are all relatively low budget mods (except the wheels).

To some it's a hobby, and to others it isn't. To each their own.

Wish lowering of the W211 was as easy as turning the bolts or get lowering bolts (pre-2000) on the C5s.

I'm learning, I'm learning. I'm impressed with some of the things which you have done. It seems like it really is a hobby for you and I can emphasize with that.

Not sure how to take that except to say that when you stop learning, you stop living. My wife and I always say as we 'bemoan' each birthday, it's a lot better than the alternative -- especially having overcome a bout with cancer a few years ago.

Watcha doing at your computer about now, BoSoxFan? Aren't you supposed to be celebrating or something? Congratulations on the end of the Curse of the Bambino. Now, if Houston can just beat St. Louis, we'll have a Massachusetts vs. Texas World Series ... what a trip that would be.

I totally agree. I want to see Clemens vs. Schilling but I don't know if the rotations will work out since Roger is up tonight.
