2010 E550 Interior Noise?Any ideas?Please advise -Thanks.

Hi

I have an E550 and it is super overall.

However, for quite some time I have heard a slight sound (not a rattle but instead more just like a noise that might be coming from the overhead area in the car/ ie humming vibration like noise ?).

I hear this when the car is on but not moving(in park , engine on or with my foot on the brake when the engine is on, , or when moving very slowly (I am guessing under 10 MPH or so).

Once I pick up some speed, I cant hear the noise/sound at all, but 2 different people now asked "what that little noise is " recently,so I thought I would ask if anyone else has this sound?

It almost sounds like it is part of the car's normal operation , but I am not sure?

If anyone has the same problem and or knows what it is and how to get it fixed, I would really appreciate the info alot.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and advise if any ideas.

Have a great day

I get a minor clicking/vibration noise from somewhere in the dashboard - but it goes away after the first couple of minutes of driving. Not sure what it is, but I can hear it if I don't have the radio on.

Yes-This sounds like the same thing. I think I hear it more on the passenger front side (dash area?) , but my wife thought the sound was coming from the overhead area in front of the moon roof ?

Anyone else have this same problem or know anything about it?

Hi! I had a static noise coming from the sunroof and internal light control area, something like a broken speaker inside. my service adviser changed the whole thing and its good now.

My guess is its coming from the shoulder end of the seatbelt.. My C55 used to have this problem at the driver side, vibration sound coming from the adjustable part for the seatbelt at low speed or idling. My W212 has this similar noise occasionally, but this time the noise came from the center part of the car. The noise seemed to be coming from dash or roof, turned out to be the same problem, except its at the passenger side..

Hello and thank you both very much for the replies.

I went to the MB dealership Fri, and it is indeed coming from the overhead sunroof and internal light control area (static noise if the perfect description).

They said there is a small air conditioning fan in that area (?), where a bearing must be loose etc ?

They said that on the new E classes (212) , they have to order and replace that whole overhead unit(the haven't done one yet on the new E, and the previous E used to be able to opened up and be corrected easily).

Lastly, they mentioned it should be easy as that unit piece unclips etc

When the y replaced yours, was it simple and is your E class the 212?

Please let me know , and again thanks so much to you both for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. Have a great day

Is it possible you are actually hearing the Airmatic suspension adjusting? I know if I'm in my car and the A/C and radio are off, I can hear some small noises from the Airmatic when someone gets in the car and the suspension has to adjust. I have a 211, not a 212, but it is possible that could be the noise.

Hi and thanks for the reply and idea re the airmatic. It is definitely coming from the overhead sunroof and internal light control area as I (now that it was pinpointed) hear it clearly from there .

I know what you mean re the airmatic noise though, as I always hear that puff type sound , especially when leaving the car after turning off the engine, and I am told this is normal.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply . I appreciate it.

Interesting. I'm getting some dashboard clunking on mine when under rough patches of road, seemingly from the passenger side. Didn't notice it until my recent long trip.

I'll see if it's a fluke or something that might become of annoyance. Hopefully it was just some some stuff clunking around in the dash or console or something.

Clicking in the dash is usually the during the test phase of the AC/venting systems with servo operation. Most service folks can fix this easily. I have had this problem in a C-class

Turns out the Dashboard clunking was my stack of CD's sitting in the passenger footwell!

Car is still rattle-free it seems! Crossing my fingers that this remains the case, or that it seriously was all and only the CD's, so far so good.

Hi -They replaced my interior dome light module and the noise stopped. They said there is a little type of fan/cooling unit in the dome light module that was not functioning correctly ?

PS- If you have the same problem, you can hear it very clearly(like a hissing sound) when putting your left ear up to the dome light area when the AC is off ,car of course is on, and you are in the passenger seat .

So far so good-Hope this info helps others, and thanks again to all who replied.

MB550 if you pressed the dome light did your rattle stop? I also have a rattle however it stops if I press gently on the rear of the dome light/sunroof, etc switch assembly.

I removed the dome assembly, but it's all pretty tight fitting so it wasn't obvious where you could add felt; just put some Krytox on the latches but no improvement. I'll look into the fan and see if there's anything obviously wrong.

TIA,

Peter

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 2010 E350. love the car! Certainly a huge upgrade from my trusty 01 E320 that was totaled ... But I have this same noise, and I'm wondering what it costed you to fix it? and if anybody knows how difficult it is to replace? and where, if anywhere, besides the dealer I can buy this part?

Thanks for any help!
