Some pictures and thoughts on my new E550

Just wanted to share with you guys some pictures and first impressions on my new E550! I got it last week after having it built to order. I decided on Steel Grey with Natural Beige Leather, P2, Pano, and the Drive Dynamic Seat. I went back and forth on 4Matic, but decided against it. The biggest decision I had were the colors. I knew from the beginning that Natural Beige was the interior for me, but the exterior was the real tough one. After having two black cars I had had enough. I'm way too OCD to have a Black car as my daily driver. I love the way the Steel Grey looks on the W212 and especially with the Natural Beige its less common. I also decided on Burl Walnut over the Black Ash because I think the warm tones of the Walnut really complement the Natural Beige.

Just a few initial thoughts on the car so far: I absolutely loved my W211 E550, but I have to say that almost everything in the W212 has been improved upon. The car feels lighter, more nimble and the ride is more controlled and stable even on the Airmatic Comfort setting. The interior is gorgeous, ambient lighting very cool, and the technology amazing (Adaptive High Beam Assist, Drive Dynamic Seat, Attention Assist etc.) The steering feel on the 211 felt a little heavier/weighty which I tend to prefer, but the 212 has a great feel too and probably helps in that light/nimble feeling I mentioned earlier.

Very happy with the car overall, only problem is they mounted a front plate bracket before I got to them! I am thinking of removing and putting bumper plugs or some kind of home grown solution. Any thoughts would be appreciated on this.

Here are just a few quick pictures:

Very nice, and some very professional quality Photo's to boot.

I have a similar interior combo (2-Tone), night and day difference over the black/black interior combo IMO, really wakes the 212's interior up, and gives it that "rich" look I think the monochromatic inside lacked.

I have a Q though, is your center console/armrest black? On my Black/Almond combo, all that's black and otherwise is the same as yours, however my center console is Almond (like the seats and door inserts, etc.). I can't tell if yours is shaded, or if it's black or grey.

Enjoy.

BTW you just spent $70K+ for this car, IMO the dealer should either professionally close the license plate holes or get you a new bumper on their dime.

Give you an idea, my local dealer will not drill a front plate until the car is out front ready to be delivered and with the new owners consent. This is not a Chevy or a Dodge

Congrats !! Very nice looking combo. The interior looks especially good with the burl walnut trim.
Do you find that the steel gray (called Tenorite in Canada) takes on a bluish tinge in certain types of lighting ?
The natural beige looks awesome in your photos. Did you consider this interior with Palladium silver ?

PMB600:

That is a sharp looking car!! The color in your photos looks both sinister and sophisticated at the same time . . . very nice.

I am with you on your choice of a lighter colored leather with the burl walnut wood trim. In my opinion, it gives the interior some needed warmth over the all black standard choice . . . but of course that is all a matter of personal preference.

Good luck!

front bumper drilled

I think the dealer should make the front bumper repair or replacement for you. I picked up my 2010 E550 Coupe and made certain before it came in that no one would install a front plate on it, I had to sign a document stating i knew that this was in violation of the law not to have a front plate. I love my Benz.

Mine is black. They are black on the Natural Beige and special order Chestnut Brown interiors. The Almond Beige and Grey two-tone interiors have center arm rests in those colors.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I do not blame the dealer for the plate since I forgot to ask them to keep off the plate until the day I got the car. On my last car I warned them in advance. I will get bumper plugs or try to do something myself.

Yes the Steel Grey does look bluish sometimes, even some violet undertones are noticeable I think in certain lighting conditions. I considered the Palladium Silver, but I prefer darker colors. In the US all the dealers got demo units last year when the car came out in Palladium Silver with Natural Beige. It's a nice combination too.

Yes, the Steel Grey does have a bluish hue in your photos, but that may be because of your camera's white balance setting or the artificial lighting.
It appears that your car has the 17" AMG alloys. Canadian production gets 18" alloys as standard.
