2011 E350,E550 Navigation / tailights

There is a rumor floating around that the 2011 E series will get upgraded command navigation with "3D" rendered landmarks/buildings etc? Just wondering if there is any truth to this. I have also read somewhere that the taillights will have amber (yellow) LED turn signals rather than the current red LEDs.

I guess what im asking is there any confirmed list out there of new / changed items for the 2011 model year? I'm looking into a E350 coupe.

Yes; the 2011 models will have an updated COMMAND system which will include 3D Graphics (S-Class style) among other things. Not sure about the lights. There is another thread about this here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...vs-2011-a.html

Never heard anything about the Tails. Amber color would be more sensical and Safety conscious. People might like Red more than Amber, but that isn't what's important back there.

Eager to see how the new Command looks, if it gets the 3D stuff.

Well, I just saw the S class 3D navigation and "split-view" technology in action. VERY impressed. I really hope they bring these features to the E-class family for the 2011 models. The dealer I was talking to had no clue what to 2011 e models will have.

I've been used to BMW before and when they did upgrades to the iDrive you could get the newer version installed by your dealer, anyone knows if it's the same with MB?

If MBUSA does change the W212 rear turn signals to amber from red, then that would be one step in the right direction (and one less reason for me to NOT consider the W212 as a possible upgrade in the far future).

Honestly, the only time you can tell that the car has amber vs. red rear turn signals is when the signal is on... when the signal is off both red and amber turn signals look the same (ie: clear).

It is possible to swap out the red flashing turn signals for the Euro amber ones, as previously posted by YYZ-E55.
He indicated that the cost is about $400 per side. Most likely, the dealer would off some credit (perhaps $100-$150 ea.) for the original ones. I am considering the purchase of a 2011 E350 Bluetec. Before taking delivery, I would insist that dealer exchange the red flashers for amber.

The adoption by several German manufacturers of red flashing tail lights for the North American market is a retrograde step for safety, IMO, one that is totally unjustifiable.

The 2011 E (W/S 212 and A/C 207) will get the 3D maps - the changeover will reportedly occur with September production. At the same time, the COMAND system will be updated to display the climate control settings on the screen.

There will be no change to the rear signal lights for North America.

I too wonder if the 3D/New Command will be upgradable on the 2010's via a Software Update.

Almost positive it wouldn't get the Splitview.

I agree.

Too bad the dealers around me can't (or refuse) to swap the red turn signals with yellow (euro/asia) ones. I asked about that when considering a 2009 C350 w/ P2 (only comes with RED LED rear turn signals in North America... while in Europe and Asia it's amber). All the local dealers I spoke with either told me that it was impossible to order Euro/Asia parts in North America, or that they wouldn't do the swap for me. That ended my interest in the C-Class.

No splitview for the E-Class at this point - you're right tho, very cool feature.

There are different brightness and color requirements for North America versus Europe in terms of the rear signal lamps. In Europe, amber is mandatory, whereas in North America either red or amber is acceptable. At the same time, the turn signal brightness requirement for North America is higher than for Europe.

The reason your dealer will not sell you the euro tails is because the amber lights have not been certified to meet the brightness requirements for North American use.

There is currently a motion to require amber rear turn signals in the US (and thus Canada) based on the safety benefits of amber, and it appears that MBUSA is in support of this change. You can read full details here:

Just to be clear I did the swap on a coupe, not a sedan. Cost may be totally different. And you won't likely be able to order them from a North American dealer.

Yes; I've have this done before in one of my previous cars. They can upgrade you via a DVD. Stick the disc in, upgrade your system, pop the disc out and restart your car then viola you have a new version of COMMAND installed.

I will soon determine availability and report my findings. On a previous E90, I had the swap done with complete cooperation from the dealer who supplied the Euro amber tail lights and gave me a fair credit for the originals.

This guy is the best! http://www.mbenznl.nl/

Plus if you live in California, he'll come to you. He does installs for Fletcher Jones and many other dealers. It's only OEM factory stuff, all retrofits are with factory parts. Check his schedule to find out when he's traveling or simply order direct from him.

He's also a sponsor here. Do a search to see the work he's done.

I just confirmed availability by Special Order of the amber rear flashers for E350 Bluetec from MB Canada (West Broadway) @ $417.80 each. Any credit for original tail lamps is still subject to negotiation.

YYZ-E55 - thanks for all the info. Are you a MB salesman or parts dealer by any chance? you seem to have all the insights! In the spirit of my original post... do you have a running list of all 2011 changes for the E series coupes and sedans?

Canada and USA are different in terms of packaging/offerings, so some of these changes may not apply to the US models...

Coupe changes are minimal - the ESP OFF button gets deleted (function moved to gauge cluster), and the 5-spoke AMG wheel from the C350 is available.

Sedan changes are also minimal - again, ESP off gets deleted, 5-spoke C350 wheel is available, Diamond White paint, Active Blind Spot Assist/Lane Keeping Assist (passive systems still available), transmission mode selector reads "E/S" instead of "C/S", revised rear headrests, revised back-up camera lens, new 115v power socket option.

hi. new to your site.

I'm enjoying the new 2011 e550 too....mentally so far,,,
seems I came to the right place. Several people have mentioned
how the dealers have been clueless about the 2011 models......
I found that to be true too.....haha.....
ironic.....
we the customers NEED to know more than they do, LOL........

I posted this on another thread. My dealer gave me a print out of the changes for MY11 E350.

1)Revised COMAND programming-head unit switches on when reverse gear activated
2)Revised rear seat headrests-tilt function deleted
3)Revised rear-view mirror
4)Revised rear-view camera(less fish eye) delayed to Sept Production
5)Climate control will be displayed in COMAND screen ...delayed to Sept. production
There was no mention of 3D on COMAND screen.

The changes are miniscule. If you are driving a 2010,you have missed nothing.
My car will be in Halifax, NS Monday. I should have it the following Tuesday.
My 2011 E350 will be very different from my 2010. This one will be blue with tan, the 2010 is silver with black.

Yeah, small beans. I'm assuming the rear head rest "revision" means they deleted the option the higher and lower it?

Also, I wonder what they did with the rear-view mirror.

Less fish-eye would be great.
