Hey everyone..just realized that the grill on the sport is slight different (3 vs 4) than the grill on the luxury. What do you all think about the 'star' grill on a black luxury E350? I think it would look awesome, but I see everyone here seems to have done it to the sport E350.

It really boils down to personal taste, wanting to be a little unique and a leap of faith when you install it. I finished my install and wasn't a 100% sold on it (it didn't really matter to me because I just would have put the standard grill back on and consider the minimal financial loss just as "an experiment"). No biggie.
My wife immediately loved it!!! By days-end I went from 90% digging it to 100% on board. In retrospect (after 3 weeks) I think it looks awesome (although I do miss the hood star sometimes) and am really glad I did it. Much more commanding and sportier.
Long story short...it's all personal taste. Good luck with the decision (remember you can always go back). Just my slanted two cents.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I am going to order it tonight. Not a big loss if we don't like it (as long as I don't mess up something else in the process). Guess I could swap the grill and see if I still like the hood star - my wife likes to be able to get an idea where the front end is when parking.

The double star (hood and grill) is too much and somewhat a no-no in these neck of the woods. Post Pictures what ever you do

MCF, if you're local to the SoCal area, I'd be interested in taking that Luxo grille off your hands if you end up liking the Star grill.

Are all the hood ornaments blue and white and if so, is that the color combo that comes on MB from the factory? My car is blue so wish I could get it in black and white.

And is $35 shipping to Houston correct??

That grille's actually not that bad. You'd still be better off painting the stocker as it'd look better IMO, and if you notice, the Vath grill has some awkward (revealing how "Aftermarket" it is) slat toward the way top, which is not in uniform with the rest of the slats, considering their spacings.

I have an idea of my car with a Luxury OEM grill (4-Slats instead of our Sport 3-Slats), with the inner slats painted Black (as they are on the 3-Slat grills). I think it'd look mean and stately, and be a bit of a different twist.

So the hood star that comes with it is larger than the opening on the hood correct? The plastic housing sits flush with the hood and the actual hood star sits 'on top' of the hood?? I was surprised when I opened the packaging tonight that the hood star is bigger than the base disc of the stock stand up star. Thoughts?

Also, did your star grill come in three pieces (one grill, one star, and one mesh housing for the star)? Thanks!!

Altec or Bphilly: How is the fit of hood emblem that come with the replacement grill from Ebay? I think MCF has another thread posted saying he couldn't find any OEM flat emblem replacement for stand up hood star here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...d-up-star.html

I found a hood badge on Ebay that is 45mm in diameter (the size of the indention in the E class hood). All the stock ones are 2.25" in diameter and are plastic. The one I found is billet aluminum and uses stock mechanism to secure emblem to hood.

There r cheap plastic 45mm emblems and billet aluminum 45mm emblems. Once I get mine I will post how the fit and quality are.

I bought grill and emblem combo from same Ebay seller that Altec and Bphilly bought theirs from. From the Ebay listing picture it looks like aluminium billet emblem. Hopefully, it is not cheap plastic emblem.

I got that one. OEM plastic that won't sit flush on hood of E. Too big.

mine arrived yesterday and I installed this morning on my '10 black E550- the chrome with black mesh looks great, and much sportier than the 4-bar grille. Fit was excellent, as it should be since it appears that these are MB parts. The flat badge for the hood is not flush with the hood, and sticks up just a bit on the outside edges - not too much of a big deal for me, but it might start to bug me later on.

I'll post pics when I get a chance, but overall I'm pleased.

Nice!! I just couldn't deal with the badge not looking right. Just can't have a $60k car with something "off". Still waiting for the hood emblem I ordered. Hope it looks good cuz I love the grill.

Does your flat badge sit flush on the hood? If so, do you mind telling me what is the part# or which Benz model your flat badge came from?

Im telling u no OEM badge will lay flat. We tried every one at the dealer and none lay flat. U need a 45mm aftermarket badge. Many are taking the base of the stand up star and putting a star in the hole.

This one fits perfectly. It's the one I bought. Same vendor. Same thing. Sits flush. No gaps.

Yes. That one looks good. Aftermarket 45mm diameter. The only prob with that one is u need to have an AMG. Some of us arent so fortunate.
