I would too but the price differential is large right. Great deals can be had now and will get better. I talked to my salesman yesterday and they want slightly over msrp on the '12s ordered now. Told me to order and add x amount to msrp and get in line. I want a '12 but not for $6k to $8k more. He's offering great deals on '11s with good selection.

I don't think that situation will last long, if at all. This time next year, there will be '12's sitting on the lot just like there are an abundance of '11's now. And the discounting, which has become standard practice here, will continue.

+1 Some dealers do this a lot. Plus it's just a tactic to sell existing inventory. Remember when the E90 M3 came out a few years ago? Dealers were trying to cash in at first. Then after the dust settled they were heavily discounted. If a dealer said I should be prepared to pay that much more over invoice on a 2012 E Class I'd say nothing and just walk out. And this is a mass produced car that usually is over-inventoried. The poster probably should mention the name of that dealer here to warn others.

I would never go back to that dealer again

I am an MB salesman in Canada.
Asking over MSRP for any car is ridiculous, no matter what model it is.
I was really close to ordering a 2012 E550W4M for my wife, but we had a new 2011 in the showroom calling my name. I didn't want to wait til November to get a car.
Now that i found out Airmatic is not available, i'm glad i grabbed a 2011.
It might be the best thing about buying a V8 E-Class, having the air suspension.
I have been driving this 2011 E550 for a week & letting my wife drive my car...i almost don't want my E55 AMG anymore.

yeah, his manager told him to do the over msrp thing. They want to move the '11s like you said and they know they're are people who will put them on order and pay the premium for the first month or two - easy money. They are offering great deals on '11s now. I'm going to wait another month or two and most likely snag one at a great deal.

The only hiccup was not knocking off the so-called advertising fees at first. A little hesitancy on my part and two trips of the salesman between me and the new car sales manager finally got that charge removed - another 1% of MSRP.
As others have said here, there will probably be an ample supply of '12's soon enough.

Respectfully, find another dealer. My long-time salesman did not hesitate to set a percentage discount on my ordered '12 E350C, although we don't know the MSRP yet.

What are they now saying re promised July delivery/car on boat etc?

The car is supposedly being built during the first two weeks of July, with delivery approx. 4-6 weeks thereafter, in other words mid August or there abouts. We shall see.
Salesman says he'll keep me informed. We shall see about that too.
My gut tells me September, but it's better at digestion than prognosticating new car deliveries.
I guess we're both impatiently waiting.

get it in August, or like you said........September.....
and yeah, I was told last year I'd be able to track the one I had built then.....but I never got too......
despite being told otherwise by, yes, the dealer.....LOL

I could call the salesman and inquire, but you must understand that my middle name is "Ostrich." (head in sand). To me, nearly all news is bad news; rarely some news is not-as-bad news, and that's about as good as it gets.
So, it'll be here when it's here I guess. Sigh.
Seriously, as July drags on, I'll be calling the salesman. I've already bugged him twice with additional questions arising from membership to this forum. He says he loves hearing from me. I wonder.

Yes, I'm not all that optimistic about being kept in the loop either. As fantastic as this dealer's service department has been to me for 11 years, I get the feeling the sales side is not quite as conscientious at following up with the customer.
I try to take a long term view of all this stuff. In other words, a year from now I'll be driving the new car and this will all just be an anxiety-ridden moment in time.
So much for philosophy.

You guys must be waiting for 350 coupes/cabs? The 2012 sedans don't start production until September.

Yes, that's what I was told. It wasn't the right color/interior combo for me though. That car allegedly should be coming in soon, but they weren't sure it could be released right away when it hits.

Thanks Hype. Good luck with your delivery too. That's a whole lot of machinery to be waiting "patiently" for.

seems like you have certainly earned some respect AND to be kept in the loop after 11 years of patronage......why do the dealers not get it? lol......we like to be included on those kinds of things.....it's part of the fun for me you know? tracking it, waiting for it, daydreaming about it.....checking the site every other day to make sure it's still the same car.....well, okay, maybe that's just me LOL....
I played the waiting game last year, but it was much worse because I had no MB yet, at least I have one now to tide me over, LOL.......
enjoy
