Sad but true!

I have been noticing a lot of Mercedes and BMWs going badge-less as of late. The funny part is: Some of the Mercedes owners take off the Model number but keep the 4matic on the vehicle. So I asked the person why did he take the model off: response “It’s a sleeper” I said no it’s an E350. Why be ashamed to own an E350?? I own an E350 and I love it. I could have bought the V8 but the money I saved is going towards my CTS V.
Well at the end of the day it's his car not mine.

Some guys must have incerdibly small little wieners if they have to put fake badges on their cars...

On the other hand, using the same logic, if an AMG owner de-badged his car,
would that indicate just the opposite?

Perhaps I should de-badge the E-500, then some girl in the know would think
it was a de-badged AMG owned by a stud that had it all and nothing to prove and she would, uh....Too much reverse psychology, better off just flaunting what I got...Still good stuff, just not as fast..

The % of AMG owners removing badges to be stealth compared to 350 owners removing theirs (mostly but not always* to try and hide their car is a 350) or adding an AMG badge is I'd imagine quite low. I especially luv the people that poorly place an AMG badge on crookedly...geez.

* Yeah I know some here like the clean euro look of no badges but the majority of people who debadge in the US are trying not to show they drive a 350 in the E line or a 300 in the C line. This also runs rampant with certain BMWs. When it comes down to it, the only one they're fooling is generally themselves.

haha, I have been planning on debadging my E63 just to bring a bit less attention to the AMG factor......that is my logic, guess it isn't a new sentiment huh?

no matter.......
with no badge there is a nice clean look back there......
I still want to have the badges on my 550 painted black....
just so people wonder 'what model is that?' if they're behind me or something, lol......

Yeah, I never see S550's that are debadged, but if MB puts out a lesser S version like they did with the previous gen, I bet we will start seeing those debadged S'

No doubt!

On my word of honor; during the way home tonight I saw a blk/blk late model SL with NO sport pkg NO AMG rims nothing but a pure base SL with a freaking AMG badge on the trunk lid and it wasn't even was not driven by some young dude but an older gray haired guy...I tried to get my phone cam going but by the time I unlocked the phone he began changing lanes then turned. I was laughing out loud while driving, people next to me were probably wondering what I was on...

Quite a few here have too. I did it to my 300CE right after I bought it new in 1992 for that purpose, but there was no higher model in E Class coupes back then.

I debadged mine as well, lol. My '06 W211 E350's previous owner debadged that car and I actually asked the Dealer to put the badge back on, until they talked me out of it.

I admit that can be a bit "ghetto" due to the reasons that most people do it (hide that thy have a lower model), and if a cars rear is bone dry stock (I mean, at least without some Tinted windows), that reasoning could be more apparent with a debadge.

In my case, my cars rear has a fairly "modded" look, so I just feel it really ties the clean look back there together.

I am very openly proud about having a 350 also, and have no envy, and will certainly never call my car an "E550". I find them to have equal cache anyway. However, I can understand the questioning and discontent toward debadging, though NOTHING is worse than rebadging.

Sometimes, the arguments about debadging say more about the one making the argument, than they do about the debadger.

In Europe, if I'm not mistaken, M-B provides the option to deliver their cars without the model badge as well.

Indeed. For my BMW, the badge / no badge is a option but you have to select it (free), so no connotation of being a poser. You can also add the chrome window moldings indicative of the 6 cyl cars as a Euro 200 option. You could see that as trying to pose, but my feeling was that the chrome was just additional trim, just like the 6 cyl cars come with bigger wheels standard.

I went for badges and no chrome btw cause I'm a cheap *** *******, and E. 55K was already enough for a 4 cyl car.

I guess everyone has their line. I detest cars with false badging, but I'm okay with debadging.

Go ahead, do it...

Would that be the reason some folks go for piercing and nose rings with purple hair: Too scream "I don't care what you think", but screaming to deaf ears as nobody really give a f... except a few who's opinion does not matter anyhow so all that for nothing....

Yeah, but them guys are AMG fanatics that are on a quest for Stolen Valor.
I can somehow see where they are coming from: They spend $90K on a fast car, but the only visible difference is a $3.00 AMG badge on the trunk,
Then some cheapo little-***** guy get the same respect and glamour gluing on the $3.00 badge,..

Perhaps both sides live in a bit of a fantasy world as it does not matter to anybody, and nobody in the real world cares one iota over a trunk badge..
