Collapsible Shopping Crates

I'd like to mention that if your wife (or husband) shops for groceries in your Mercedes, the Mercedes Collapsible Shopping Crates are the cat's meow. At $16 - $20 they are a real bargain.

When the wife (or husband) has groceries loaded in those sloppy, slippery plastic bags and dumps them in the trunk, all hell breaks loose on the drive home.

The crates are the real solution. They store flat in the garage, and open up easily for use. Three of them fit perfectly across the back of an E class sedan trunk, and moving the middle one forward half way creates a fourth captive area for groceries. In all, no more bottles of red wine scattering across the trunk floor and banging around, etc., etc., etc.

If I have a criticism, it's that the ends should snap in place a little more firmly when the crate is opened up, but once you know that, it's no big deal, and it's no problem if the crate is loaded anyway.

Great find!

Even more useful at places like Costco and Sam's Club where you don't even get plastic bags.

Did you buy them online? If so where?

Regards,
Don

I bought them at my dealer for ~$20.

I saw them on-line at mbonlineparts.com for $16 (shipping $9.50), but there is some discussion about the quality of that vendor, in which discussion I choose to not participate since I've never dealt with them.

Is there a part number so I can reference it to my dealer?

So you think that posting about theft is appropriate and/or funny?

It is those stolen items that cause dealers to tighten down on loaners supply you with an Enterprise loaner.

Hey he can afford the stolen Benz too probably. LOL!

Seriously, I used this crate the other night to haul some plastic grocery bags & they are great for that...after I removed the paper bags...which won't fit.

But be prepared that it doesn't hold much..unless you are prepared for it to be ontop of each other.

The only difference between stealing $20 and stealing $500 is that the latter is a felony and I can't imagine that you actually believe that theft is OK.

The amount of money you have spent at the dealer is immaterial and arrogance in posting this on a public forum speaks to your lack of ethics.

If you don't want me to post my comments then don't post things to provoke my responses.

Should come with the car

Considering how many cars come with cargo nets in trunks/rears standard, you would think M-B would have included something like this in all its cars. Even Hyundai has cargo nets as standard equipment.
I picked up a fabric type cargo holder at Target for $10 at Christmas last year. Not as nice, but larger and folds flat when not needed. Works great.
If interested, check the end of the aisles where they have the Christmas gifts, usually in red and white boxes.

I like the idea of these crates and will pick some up. I also thought that a net would be nice but the do give you the fold down hooks for those plastic grocery bags. It's all the other stuff that doesn't work with a grocery bag that sounds like these crates would be ideal for.

Thanks for the suggestion Live Oak.

I have used similar crates for many years that were made in Holland. They look like those sold by MB. I have used them in several MB's and wouldn't want to be without them. By placing them on an anti-skid map they simply don't slide around.
My crates easily fold down so they take up a minimum of space when you need the room for large items.
I can't think of a better addition to your car than the crates combined with an anti-skid mat.

This is a great idea. I've been using the center pull down hook for small bags and the nets on the sides of the trunk, but the box above seems like a better solution.

the OP looks eerily similar to the one in my GLK.
& I checked out the size is the same on the mbpartsonline.
& yes too all your questions.

Now, getting back to the subject at hand.

There are a couple of other storage options that may be of interest.

Audi has a folding storage hook that mounts under the rear deck. The spring loaded hook pulls down and holds a couple of plastic bags.

BMW has a set of "gripper hooks" that also holds plastic bags, mounts under the rear deck but doesn't become invisible when not in use like the Audi hook.

The 2010 e-class also has this. Now I might be interested in that aftermarket Audi hook for my wife's CLK. Wonder if it would work?

I've actually had a lot of use out of the fold-away hooks pointed to in the above diagram. They can hold 4 large paper grocery bags in place (2 for each hook)...

I also recently bought and installed the cargo net that goes across the opening of the trunk and it is elastic and does a great job of holding grocery bags in place... the net also has a pocket and I FINALLY found a way to keep my golf umbrella from flying around in the trunk... (if you have the power sunshade, you loose the notch behind the back seat that would typically hold a golf umbrella...)

I don't see why it shouldn't. As long as you have a bit of metal under the parcel shelf to screw into. I've installed these in my BMWs, Acuras and older MBs

How is the OEMplus.com merchant site to deal with? Did you have good experience with them?
