Can I see where you put your V1?

Hello once again Mercedes Benz fellows:

Finally got myself a V1 radar locator, and was out in my car fooling around with it; trying it in the front outlet, the backseat outlet etc....
I AM having it hardwired into the car next week, but was just wondering what you other cats are doing with it and where you have it positioned
in your car..(visor, or suction cups)...any pix would be cool, or any feedback at all.
I'm looking forward to having this precaution with me: does anyone use the hidden module or have any feedback for that?
Many thanx!

I have the hidden module and frankly just don't use it. When the V1 is in the Mercedes, it's on suction cups resting just on top of the dash with a dangling wire...ugly but it gets the job done.

I position the V1 on the right side of the driver's visor with the visor pulled slightly down to aim the rear facing antenna. The V1 has antennas facing fore and aft. The one foot long tail of the flat power cord is hidden behind the passenger side visor when not in use. From the left edge of the passenger visor the power cord is tucked behind the molding at the top of the windshield and then down the "A" pillar and terminates in the glove box where it is plugged into the power receptacle. When in use or not in use nothing shows from the outside. Take the detector off with the visor clip and stash it in the glove box. Tail of the cord goes behind the visor. I did it in less than an hour, took no moldings off, disassembled nothing.

It performs very well. You will quickly get used to the value of the arrows.

I did not purchase the remote and probably will not.

was also just talking to a State Trooper at dinner and asked who's most likely to get it in
a speeding caravan of vehicles: his answer was 'the first guy'

High and just to the side of the RVM is optimal placement for the receptor horn alignment. The remote display comes in handy at night when you don't want the arrows announcing that you have a detector to all behind you. They have also come out with a SAVY module that pulls the power directly from your dim port (where the service guys hook up their computer to see if there are any fault codes) and then on to the V1. SAVy allows you to set the V1 not to alert below xx MPH speed. This really helps if you are cursing through your local strip mall parking lot and the door openers are tripping off alerts.

As requested:

FYI. I had the technicians hardwire the cord and leave a 5 inch lead. Thats a little extra in casse I ever want to move to V1, but short enough that the little extra is easily concealed.

And pics of the sprint booster light!

The green light beyond the steering wheel is my Sprint Booster selector light.

OMG Hyperion, you HAVE to get one of these. Just got back from driving around town and the car is transformed to a monster. It is SO much fun. I know I am not allowed to think this, much less write it, but I swear the car feels a LOT quicker...like I just knocked off 1 second in a 0-60 sprint.

Dare I say it feels like the punch of my Ferrari without the high power band.

Hyperion, I posted on a previous thread concerning the mounting of my V1. I had it hard wired by the dealership. I first had it mounted on the sun visor but that proved to be too close to me. You always had to look straight up to see the wrning signals on it. I moved it back to the top of the windshield with the suction cup mount, just to the left of the rear view mirror. I have a dark tinted windshield strip across the top of my windshield so it is impossible to see it from the outside. I have a V1 in all four of my vehicles. All of them are hard wired and three are on suction cup mounts. Considering they are on suction cups, they almost look factory because of appropriate placement. The fourth one is in the Vette and is on an aftermarket bracket design specifically for the V1 to mount under the rear view mirror. It definitely looks like a factory installation A little time and fore thought will allow suction cup mounts to look pretty decent, all things considered. Good luck with your placement decision.

many thanx CorvetteOJ, it is not a good place like you said, on the visor.....and the windshield mount does seem to announce to the world of V1 ownership......I like the dark tint strip thing you mentioned, that sounds ideal, but as you know we haven't got one, LOL.......
I'm hoping the indy cats can rigg it up right, not like it's the first one they've done, haha..
thanx again

I have a V1 with the remote plugged into the ashtray and the receiver hooked up to the passenger visor. The receiver displays nothing. A suction mount in that area would also work if your passenger likes to use the vanity mirroR. I use a silver phone cord, rather than the black because in my cars it seems less visible from the outside. I route the cord around the visor and through the glove box. You probably have one hanging around the house, they are Radio Snack cheap so try the experiment. (Non sequitor rant:If there were more speed cameras nearby, as we found on our recent trip to the UK, some recognition or perhaps an alternate Comand integration maybe via iPad or native would be desirable. The problem was in urban areas the Gps gets confused losing satellites so the location was compromised and voice did not alert to the cameras at all, the display did not alert to the cameras in a timely fashion not that we were speeding. In the G I'm ready to dump the cd functions, nav and sound, it would be cool if we could get a Garmin or the IPad, or the android phone to sit in front of the Comand display D2b optic crap, and use the other device as a multifunction display. Does anyone know of such a solution? Maybe put the Garmin where it can get the satellites and use the iPad for ttunes? Then there is the question of active countermeasures. The rise of laser in this area has slowed down no doubt due to budget issues. If I take a picture of your face and plate why do I need a human?)
I like the mute button on the remote, as well as the arrows and the counter. One can set the loudness threshold of the mute; it resumes sound and blinks the arrow when a new threat is discovered. My companion likes to help read the arrows, it helps when a bogie is hiding amidst several decoys or coming up from behind. Yes we mute when we go by shopping malls but when the 4 we usually see turns into five with a loud sound and a blinking arrow there is the patrol parked inconspicuously.
We are often challenged by RR, x5s, Priuses, and fah*t can Ricers on the highway. They are bait just let them go past. The hidden display goes off we slow down they go flying by and whodathunk a mile down the road their brakes go on but it is already too late for them. Perhaps Mike will renew his patents?
I know this is the poor mans stealth but I've never had anyone significant mention it.

Here is a pic of my V1 location. I canot post more than one pic at a time on this forum, for some reason, although I can post numerous pics simultaneously on other forums. If you guys will bear with me, I will post another one or two. I promise not to post anymore pics until I break the secret code. I just felt these were ijmportant to Hyperion. Contrary to popular belief, the V1 does not need to be lower on the windshield in order to work with 100% accuracy.

It is hard wired with no wire visible. As I have stated previously, I have a V1 mounted in all four vehicles and three of them are on the suction cup mounts at the top of the windshield. The fourth one, in the Corvette, is mounted on a custom after market bracket attached to the bottom of the rear view mirror in such a manner it looks as if it is a factory installlation. All four have paid for themselves more than once.

OJ, you might want to lower your V1 below your tint strip. The manufacture recommends against what you're doing, apparently the tint makes the radar less effective.

When I use my V1, I mount front and center, directly under the rear view mirror.
