Michelin pilot users, question for you
I know driving habits vary tire life all over the map. . . But what kind of mileage are the Michelin pilot runners seeing on their E350's, 2WD? The rear stock Contis are nearing replacement time at about 25k. Other than life I have had no problems.
Also, normally I would not mix brands but hate to buy four new when two are worn out. Opinions?

Thanks CEB, how is the noise level on the mich all seasons? Sometimes I've noticed that the all season tires can make a lot of noise. one thing I can say about the Contis is that they are quiet.
Thanks in advance

I have Michelin Pilot Sports on my Vette. They are even run flats and are fantastic. They are much, much, quieter than the Goodyears that came from the factory. They wear even and last longer than most tires.
You mentioned just replacing two tires with the Michelins and leaving the other two Contis that are not as worn. Personnally, IMHO, I would never mix two different radial tires on any car. Different tires have different characteristics which, simply put, it confuses the handling of a car. For grocery getters, it might work, however, for late model Mercedes that will probably see some high speed highway use, it's not a good idea, and definitely affects the handling characteristics of the car.

Had the Michelin Pilot on my previous E-Class (all-seasons). Tires were awesome, quiet, grippy and pretty good in inclement weather. Had them all throughout my 3 year lease (36,000 miles) and there was barely any wear on them. Highly recommended by me.

Never, ever mix two different tread patterns. Either replace all four or stick to the exact same tires as replacements.

Thanks for the insight. I kinda figured I would have to replace all four. I have never mixed brands for the reasons mentioned. I just might swap out all four for the michelns.

I must be the odd duck here, I had Pilot Sports on my Caddy CTS and they SUCKED!. I pulled them at around 10K and put Pirellie P-Zero Nero's on it and they were great. I was very happy to see those same P-Zero's were OEM stock on my new E-350.
I wouldn't mount another Michelin if you gave them to me free.
As for MY Corvette, Goodyear Run-Flats were horrid. I went with Firestone Indy-Ovals (non run-flats) and they have been great!

A few different ones
I've got the Pilot 2's on the Porsche and they are great but keep in mind the ride will be harsher ... not sure if that makes a difference to you or not.
Also never mix tires ... it is really a bad idea. Your car will not be as predictable as the front will react differently from the rear.

I hated pirellis on my e550 and got rid of them before reaching 2k miles. PS2 transformed the car to the new level - just my 2c.

Luke at TireRack.com is a regular poster there and will respond to questions on the forum. No personal experience with TireRack here yet, but they have a top-notch reputation, as does Luke.
I personally do not have confidence mixing tire brands, but I have read that it is not generally a problem, as long as you retain the proper sizes and the same type of tire (no summer tires on the front and winter tires on the back, performance tires on one axle and grand touring tires on the other, directional treads vs. non-directional, etc.). A good question for a professional like Luke.
Also, the Tirerack.com website has excellent resources for comparing tire specs, performance, user reviews, etc.
Good luck.
