First road trip in the BlueTec
I understand the guess-0-meter may not be super accurate, but still...
If this is what I get on the commute to my new office, that is AOK!

Yeah not rain on your parade but I reset at every fill up and the computer seems to overstate by approximately 10% vs the fill up/trip mileage method. Still fantastic mileage though! As you may read from others and I noticed to an extent in out other diesel, MPG tends to get better after long break in...

What is the definition of a hyper mile-er? never really found anything clear? I definitely am more conservative and don't stomp it unless I have to and try coast as much as possible to a stop. However I definitely don't draft trucks and I do drive at 70mph when possible rather than 55mph....

Wait until you get a few miles on it. I regularly see 42.5 mpg on the computer during my commutes and have seen as high as 44 on the gas-O-meter. The Bluetecs just defy description.

I drive 25-30K mi per year and have owned several diesel vehicles. I bought the Bluetec because in 2011, there was no other vehicle available in the US that had the combination of comfort, quality, and efficiency. Some of my Prius-owning co-workers do not do much better overall that I do. All of my diesel cars have done much better in the wild than what is posted by the EPA sticker. Oh, and one of the greatest things about diesels is, you do not have to baby them. In fact, diesels do much better when driven hard and under load. Don't baby her and she will definitely baby you!!!

My first drive in my E350 BTEC was from Sindelfingen to Maastricht, a distance of 472 km, and fuel economy was 31.78 mpg (both on the computer and based on the tank).
The first time I ever drove the E350 BTEC, which is when the car was first being launched in the U.S., I drove from New York to Boston and back on half a tank. That translated to 34.5 mpg.

I've done a couple of long road trips with my Bluetec and on the most recent one I got a 42mpg reading on a stretch in which the *actual* mileage (fillup to fillup calculation) was 37.5mpg.

I know it depends on driving style and terrain, but I find that my Trip computer is about 5-7% optimistic most of the time. I have had it be very close to dead on too. To be totally honest, I would have been happy if it met the EPA guesstimate of 32 mpg. Anything above that is just icing on the cake.

Your Bluetec will make you love your Bluetec. It is interesting to me that there are virtually no complaints from the Bluetec owners on this site. We are either just easier to please or got something really good in our fuel choice. The only negative in driving the Bluetec (or any diesel for that matter) is that you will forever either drive a diesel or wish you were.

I have averaged 24 mph and I am getting 27mpg over the past 3000 miles (almost from new). Such is life living in a large city with traffic. I can not complain at all about 27 mpg....my previous infiniti M37 (2011) got 17 mpg. On longer trips on the interstate I am seeing over 35 mpg.

But where my office is, diesel is cheaper than regular at home, so I just fill while I'm at work.

If you have highway truck stops, the price is generally cheaper and the fuel is fresher than inner city diesel as well.

Given that my Bluetec has a highway rating that's 37% better than the rating of its gas equivalent (the V6,that is...the V8 is even worse) I think a 3 or 4 percent premium in winter...and *no* premium in summer...is pretty darn good.

I've been thinking about a diesel so always check the diesel fuel prices. Here in MN the past year, diesel was often 70 cents more then premium. Now it is about 35 cents more than premium.
Here, the fuel mileage advantage of diesel often disappears with the pricing difference

Here in Orange County CA, diesel goes for as low as 0 cents different to 30 cents different compared to premium gas. Arco here has it at same price as premium gas.
Fuel mileage being reported on these BlueTec are for real!!! I love driving this new toy.

Yes, the mileage is fantastic. This is from a trip to Napa and back, 70-75 mph.
