Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself since I joined the forum farily recently and, while I have mostly been lurking, I look forward to participating in the various discussions.

I recently picked up my first MB -- a 2010 E550, steel gray, with some good options (e.g., P2, leather, lighting pkg, massage drivers seat, pano roof, etc) and I'm doing a few mods, including 20" wheels. Will post pics as soon as it's done, which brings me to my question . . .

Should I keep the stock wheels (in the photo below) or sell them?

The only reason I would keep them is to put them back on in case I need warranty work done on the brakes, suspension or anything related because I have heard the dealers will find any excuse not to honor the warranty, particularly if you have aftermarket wheels, which would aboslutely suck becuase I have an extended (CPO) warranty to 2015.

All opinions welcome and thanks!

I would keep them, lets say you crack a wheel you always have your stocks to put back on.. Always good to have a plan B

If that's truly the only reason you'd keep them, then are you really asking about your chances of needing work done to the brakes, suspension, and related? Probably the most common issue is leaky airmatic parts - do a search on "my e550 keeps sinking" or similar. That alone could set you back, I'm guessing, a couple grand. Given that your car is used and may have had this issue, maybe it would be a good idea to hold onto the wheels until you get to know your car?

Another reason to keep them is for mounting snow tires in the winter, assuming you live in an area that gets snow. Or for long-distance tires - I cannot imagine a long trip on 20 inchers.

if you have a storage, give them. and like what tto said, use them during winter. unless you don't have the space and don't have snow, that's a different story. you'll get pretty good money back by selling them as they are oem amg wheels but most of the people have their own taste and it could be difficult for you when you sell your car in the future. also some people think pre-owned vehicles w/aftermarket wheels = drive aggressively. it could hurt the chances for the potential buyers as well.

These are nice wheels and you should keep them . I was thinking of selling mine stocks 17" wheels too . Because I will be using Designo wheels same size . I think I will keep them in my storage

Man, lots of people scooping up 2010 E550's! Depreciation must be kicking especially the V8's coming off Lease especially with these gas prices! The consumer wins out on an awesome car for a great price, however. What did you buy the Car for?

I'd probably keep the rims, though, good call on replacing them.... I hate those 6-Spokes.

Thanks all for your responses. Snow is not a concern in SoCal and I have the space.

BM2BZ - I completely agree and I tend to turn over cars within a few years. This and the possibility of warranty issues makes me pretty sure now I will keep them.

Will post pics when I have the new shoes on -- probably a month or so as I have to wait patiently for them to be made.

I'm still getting to know the car, but I can see why people here are very satisfied with the W212.

you are very welcome, marcus . i have the same car as yours, even the color, minus the p2 and pano roof. the more you drive, the more you'll fall in love . but imho, definitely add at least a trunk spoiler and it'll just look that much better. enjoy your new ride !

Nice car!

Mine is also 2010 E550, steel gray, P2 and I also have the Driver assist package.

Keep the wheels. After driving it for a couple of months with the 20" rims you will want to switch back and then you will have a big problem...how to sell those 20s...

Silly / stupid question to anybody: How do you post those big pictures?

I haven't given it a try on this site , it works at other sites :

[IMG] http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...s/a1cf35af.jpg [/IMG]

This is very important no space between these IMG tags

How to retrieve http code ?

Simple, just right click on the image and look at Properties . Copy and paste the link in the properties section and put the link between these IMG codes and no space
That's it

Thanks Arrie. I hope you're wrong about the 20"s though. The fact that it has been a number of years since my last set of 20"s on a sedan (had an X5M just before this and 20"s on that heavy beast ride like butter, even with runflats) does give me some pause, but not enough to cancel my order. To do so would be to admit that I am as old and uncool as I am. No thanks.

BTW, I use photobucket too, which makes it very easy. The site generates codes for the type of post (e.g., email, forums, etc) and you just copy the code for your purpose.

BenzV12 - which mopdel Designos are you getting?
