I dont think it shows it, but i thought there was a way to get it to read them, i know i see that option under the MIPS menu.....but have never gotten it to work

I have a Blackberry and I get text messages on the COMAND screen. It will even read them out loud.

You need to buy Bluetooth module or phone cradle compatible with your phone . Bluetooth module is like this :
