"Anti-theft Activated. Service Required" error message...
Has anyone seen this before?
Last night, I went to drive the car, and it started and drove fine, but on the nav screen display it said "Anti-theft Activated. Service Required." None of the audio/nav/backup camera or anything worked. I called Roadside Assistance and they said it had to be taken to the dealer as it was a software issue. This morning the message is gone and everything works fine again.

had this happen to me a few days ago - no stereo, no nav, but the car was driveable. i did what i used to do with my Jag when its computer acted funny. turn off the car, get out, lock the doors, wait ten minutes, unlock and start the car again. that cleared it up. you have wait long enough for the computer to shut down so it reboots when you start the car. the computers in these cars stay on for a little while after the engine is stopped.
i've been wondering if this is related to the problems with the car not recognising the key fob. i've had that happen a few times and i know others on the forum have as well.

One possibility is that the battery in the key fob needs to be replaced. It takes about ten seconds at home if you already have he battery. I've had lots of weird stuff happen when my battery runs low (twice now in about 2.5 years).

See post #49. I had a similar (same?) issue that was rectified with a software update.

Per Konigster, there's a TSB on it. LI82.85-P-058185 DEC13 – 166, 204 & 212 with engine OM651 intermittently COMAND display may show fault message “Anti-theft protection activated” cause, disrupted CAN communication.

Hello, I changed my radio on my 2013 W204 C300 because most of the keypad numbers were peeled and I am getting the anti-theft message.
I have the vin number from the donor car where I bought the unit and tag receipt. The replacement radio is from an exact model and configuration of mine. I just need to marry the donor car radio to mine.
I know how to enter to engineering mode but i don't know how to synch the replacement radio.
I don't want to go to my nearest dealer. Last time I check in with 2 issues, they keep the car for a week. and I had to pickup the car because they charge me $700 just for diagnostics and want me to pay another $800 to keep looking for a check engine light P0179. Please locals avoid Cuttler Bay Mercedes they are white collar crooks.

Can individual buttons be removed from original front panel? If so, before discarding remove and save all good buttons for future replacement or sale to another member and provide replacement procedure.
To all members every time you replace a part containing keypad and/or switch buttons experiment with removal and save if possible.

Anti theft protection activated
I have a 2012 ml 350. I replace my head unit ( radio ) with one from another 2012 ml350 . After install and start up I got this message.
Anti theft protection activated service needed.
Mercedes Ben quote me one for $3000, so I buy one on eBay for $200.
I try every thing to get it off my navigation sreeen but still message come back.
even take to Mercedes dealer and they said they can’t take it off, only if they had purchased it from them, I don’t know what else to do.
