Well yesterday was a first for me in my entire 17 years of driving!!!!
I caused an accident!!!!!!
While merging onto I-40 I was trying to beat someone on the highway, and I was in the ending lane (so I was deemed responsible by the trooper) and was side swiped by a Duke power truck
....
you can see the damage that was caused: the mirror was ripped off, and a nice size scratch dent on my door......
ever wonder what your mirror would look like ripped off??
Well, the game is GUESS the repair cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after this repair I'm going to trade this in for a 2012 S550
Tomorrow I'm going to get a repair estimate.....
Hopefully the gods will be forgiving.....
The HRE's came out unscathed!!!!!

Luckily the damage seems limited to the door. It looks like much of it is paint transfer so a bit of 3M adhesive remover should make it look better temporarily.

Don't beat yourself up over this. **** happens. The average safe driver is involved in 4 accidents in his or her lifetime. It could have been much worse.

According to this thread, MB's price for the mirror glass alone is almost $800. Hate to think what the whole mirror assy will cost!

That sucks. Not sure how much it'll cost but I'd wager a couple of grand if you wanna get it done right. Hopefully you don't have to pay too much for the damage caused to the truck?
And I'd hold off on the S550. The 2014 (brand new bodystyle) is right around the corner and unless you're very attached to the W221's specific design (for good reason, though I think the W212 is a better looking car with a similar styling language but more modernized and dynamic), or don't like what you see from the W222's renders and spy pics (not too much info yet to truly know what it'll be like), you can rest assured that it'll be a technological tour de force.
Also, the S-Class being such a high priced car, will get hit with some nice depreciation once the next body style hits the lots.
As for the accident. Never let your confidence get the best of you, because it's inevitable, sh** happens to us all.

That sucks Hype, at least We all know that you weren't on your cell phone when this happened..lol Don't sweat it, it happens to the best.. I'm going with $4200.oo to repair,, and I agree with KA, wait for the new body style S, it would be like driving a w211 around in place of your w212 currently, not that the w211 is bad, just a little outdated and I'm sure thats what the current S will be in a year.

Hype. You were due. Statistically, you beat the house for a number of years, but, the house always wins. You had a nice long run. I am guessing the Mirror will run about $1800 +/- installed. Much cheaper than a funeral. Good choice!!!

...going to test drive an S tomorrow I think, and that's good advice about the 2014 model coming soon....

Guesstimate $3500+ assuming R & R to 3 panels, a new mirror assembly from MB and the work executed by an approved shop.
Save those photos depicting the minor nature of the hit, no structural damage. This crash could become part of the Carfax file for this vehicle. I realize you lease and don't keep the cars very long but it could be an issue when you return the car. Crashes can become a problem for a dealer selling the car as a certified used car.

didn't report it.....only have the bare minimum of liability.....planning on just writing a check.......don't see the point of even telling the blood suckers....
but I'm sure they'll jack me up anyway; my rates that is....
I always told myself if I had an accident and it was my fault I'd just suck it up and pay for it......versus doing the dance with insurance.....
& no doubt the man in the truck will want his crap scratch fixed too

I do have a MB certifed shop doing the work, going to visit them in the morning to get the information.....they're also putting on a new roof spoiler
that's peeling off at the corners......but that's warranty
I have heard from three different sources that this shop is very good at working with MB, so I'll find out.....
