W212 Power Folding Mirror

Does anyone know where to get one of these european power folding mirror including the switch? The Benz dealer in my town won't let me buy it. "We only install/replace things that are associated with your VIN number." Isn't that weird?

I guess it is standard for Canada, so maybe check there as well. My manual mentions powered folding mirrors setting with a note for Canada only.

There was a thread somewhere on here about some guy doing some mods on his car. He replaced the mirrors with the power folding mirrors that he ordered off ebay from Germany. There was also a lot of other parts he needed to get such as the switch.

You will not be able to buy the mirror in the states because the dealership cannot even order it. I will try my luck in Canada as I bought the eye-glass holders that replaced the roof handles. I tried to buy those here and they cannot even special order it unless you have a VIN with the item listed. So I just called up a dealership in good ol' Vancouver and they even mailed it to me with no extra charges.

Yea I saw that thread and I messaged the guy. He said he's not able to fold the mirror. I don't know if Benz dealers in the U.S. can reprogram it though.

You can install the mirror brackets with integrated motors and the switch and the PFMs will work without any additional wiring. But you won't be able to get them to auto-fold when you lock/unlock the doors.

I guess that means I need to do some codings to get them auto-fold right?

i believed my 2008 C300 has the folding mirror. It always fold/unfold every time I lock/unlock the car. it's odd that E class doesn't have it

Yea that's what I thought earlier! It's really strange.

The best I can figure is that if it is a US spec car, the mirrors can not be made to work because it is blocked. They will not even work by pushing the button (as opposed to auto folding which is even more out of reach).

I am going to give it a try, but I think it is just wasted money. I believe that not even the dealer can program it since it is blocked when trying to enable it from Germany

Just to clarify this OLD thread... The facelift W212s have automatic folding mirrors, either available or standard. The manual switch is in the driver's door switch cluster.

Unfortunately, I can confirm that installing the folding mirror switch and folding mirrors does not allow the mirrors to fold. I did the same thing in my W211 and they folded just fine.
I have read that you must also code a W212 to enable the folding mirrors. I have also read that the dealers are not able to enable them on US spec cars. Is there anyone that has gotten these to work on a US spec car?
If so, I would appreciate anything you can tell me.

Only 2015-2016 Facelift in USA had the power folding mirrors.

I know. I was trying to add them to my car. So far, I can't get them to work. I need to look into whether or not the car can be programmed to use them. Not sure why Mercedes locks this kind of stuff down. If you want to spend the money to add options, you should be able to.

EDIT. I did get the mirrors to work. see my post below.

Not sure what the CGW or IC are but what door module is needed? I thought they were the same ones. That could be the issue.

There is a lot of misinformation out there. You can add folding mirrors to the early 212 cars. You need the folding mirrors and the switch first. I installed the switch to both of my cars first so that was done. Then it's just a matter of installing the mirrors and the programming. The 211 allows you to fold the mirrors right away via the button as soon as you swap everything. You must code it for the auto folding to work. On the 212, nothing works until you code it. There are two coding changes. One to allow folding mirrors and the other to allow auto folding. I have only gotten the first coding done but plan on finishing it because I think I would like them to auto fold. Or at least to have the option.

Any update? Where did you buy the mirrors and switch? Any additional wiring or is it already in the door?

Chris

I bought the mirrors on either eBay or dealer depending on if I could get a decent deal on eBay. I think I have two extras on eBay right now. The switch I also bought on eBay. Wiring is there. You need mirror frames, button, and programming.
