humming noise front end

Driving back from Florida the car started to make a humming noise at about 40 mph. it got louder until about 65 mph then I could not hear it anymore at 75 mph. When traffic got bad and you slowed down the humming noise came back. I thought it might be a bearing in the front wheel or the trans. There is no noise in park only while driving. I have an appointment to bring car in Friday but I thought someone may have an idea of what it might be. I hope the dealer doesn't tell me it is normal. Car has about 4,300 miles If anyone knows let me know Thanks.

Not normal, especially since it just started randomly.

Does varying the rpms with manual shifting at 45mph change the noise? If not, then not the trans

Something in the wheel well?

Let us know when u get it diagnosed

manual shifting makes no difference. Wheel well is clean. I will let you know. I still think it is some sort of bearing. The faster you go the higher the pitch until you do not hear it.

With so low miles, it has to be something simple like the tires. I can't imagine something like a bearing failure. What psi are you running up front and is it exactly the same in both front tires?

36 psi in both front tires. I am going to take the drivers side tire off tomorrow to look and see if I can find anything wrong. will post if I find anything or not. When the car is about a year old it will have less than 5,000 miles for its first oil change. The last car I got rid of had 28,000 and 12 years old. It still looked like the day I bought it.

Ok, sounds good. I had a C32 AMG back in '02 and I had run over a piece of truck tire retread on the expressway. Didn't think anything of it. A month or so later I heard a humming from the front and found out that part of my wheel well lining was loose and actually rubbing on the tire. Like the old playing card in the bicycle spokes. I reattached it and everything went back to normal. I'm sure you will find the culprit.

Had car at dealer today. As I suspected the left front wheel bearing is bad. They had to order the part. It should be in by Tuesday. Also had them do service bulletin 27-19-P056610 for the trans jerking in Gear 1 through 4. They said I had the newest service bulletin already in the car. I said to re-do it anyway because it still jerks. They said they did it. It now has to learn all over how to shift. Will let you know how it works out after Tuesday. Only 4,300 miles on the car and bearing goes out and it was not even made in the USA. So much for German engineering.

This stuff happens man, it's certainly not a commonly reported problem

Once again, I understand your frustration probably better than most

Wow, well you called it. I never would have expected that, but thanks for checking back with the issue. I hope you go for a long time with no more problems.

I had a new Hyundai Genesis V8 with a front bearing failure at 5k. Bearings can last 500 miles or 500k miles. Nothing to be mad about - you are not the first person to have this happen to, and won't be the last.

And by the way, on my first 2014 e550, after tranny issue surfaced, within 4000 miles I also had total failure of the distronic sensors and steering column replacement for grinding ... All covered under warranty

Sh-t most definitely happens
