Can't pump gas???
I just purchased a 2011 E550 coupe with 32,000 miles. (It's for my wife actually) the car absolutely amazing as many of you know. The problem is that you can't put gas in the car without holding down the gas pump lever ever so slightly. With slow flowing gas it's no problem but if you squeeze in order to use the little setting holder thingy the pump instantly clicks!! It's super frustrating to gas in the car. Any ideas?

try a different station. did you notice if the pump nozzle was one of those real short ones? there are 2 different styles of nozzles out there and the newer mercedes don't work well with the short ones.

Thanks for the tip. I've done a bit of research based on your comment. I guess this happened when the previous owner topped off the tank at fill ups. The MB warranty is good until 2017 on this vehicle. Given that this is user error, do you think MB would warranty repair this?

MBWorld Fanatic!
Didn't realize there were different size nozzles. most of the ones around here have a coil around the nozzle that hits against the MB black plastic insert. Therefore, the nozzle only inserts a few inches before it stops. my other cars don't have this plastic insert and the nozzle is able to fully insert all the way to the flap. never had a problem filling up though with the MB.

here is an explanation. still could very well be the charcoal canister but those are pretty rare to have to replace these days.

It appears it was the gas pump and not the charcoal canister. Unfortunately none of the gas stations in my city work properly. Major bummer.

This should be a recall, it's been going on for some time, at least 5 years that I know of. Turning the nozzle 90 or 180 degrees does work but that's dangerous since the auto shutoff may not work properly.

I am having the same issue with my 2012 E550 also. I brought it up to my friend which is also my mechanic at a local MBZ dealership. He said MBZ knows about the issue with some of the newer models and has instructed all dealerships to NOT troubleshoot the issue (Requires Fuel Tank to be replaced) because it is only happening with certain types of fuel pumps/gas stations. Basically they are forced to tell everyone to use a different gas station and its not an issue with them.
