What happened to E550 sedan???!!
I had a '10 4matic and loved it, then decided for a change, to go w/ a '12 CLS 550 4m. Great car as well. That's going back on lease and was too impractical w/ 4 seats, so looking to get back into the 550 and all I see is the weak 400! It's now making me consider a 550ix, I need that V8 power.......

I hear you man, no idea why they dropped it. Even the 550I isn't as good as it was. I had a 2007 550I which was one of the last years for the 4.8L before they moved to the twin turbo. I love the 5.5 in my E550 but will likely have to go back BMW next as with a car this size you really need a V8

It is sad that they dropped it - I love driving mine every day. The car brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.

I just read that '14 was the last year. I honestly would consider leasing a '14 left over, so I can enjoy that monster of an engine. I have it now in my CLS and can't see going back! Even the naturally aspirated 550 engine in my '10 E550 was great. Even before that, I had a '08 CLK 550, so I am a 550 man to the bone / 8 years running! It's one of my favorite engines.
To answer another post, I didn't try the 400 yet and don't mean to insult any 400 or 350 owner. It's just if you compare the specs, it's night and day power wise.
Another post must be the reason, simply didn't sell. I guess people weren't willing to pay the $ upcharge for the performance and added fuel costs, etc. that go along w/ the territory.

I traded my 13 CLS550 4M because of an accident. My dealer only had a CLS400 4M in stock with the right equipment and color, so I bought it. I must say it's not the V8TT but the performance is superb. The engine has great torque and is very quiet compared to the 350 NA engine.
Drive the E400 before you write it off as inadequate. It will perform practically as well as your NA V8 but not as well as the TT V8.

When I found out that '14 was the last year for this model, I didn't hesitate. I love the facelift and the motor. No doubt the absolute best bang for the buck vs the E63. I wish I had also picked up an ML550. The m278 is such a sweet motor, probably the best non-AMG motor MB has ever made. IMO a huge mistake dropping it for a V6, a real shame. I will literally never get rid of this car.

Which is stupid, cause I think it's going to lose them customers. I for one, don't want to spring for the AMG. This is only my daily driver, so don't want to go all out. AMG not practical for work, driving to meetings in NYC, etc. I think a lot others will share my sentiment.

The E550 is a low volume seller in the USA. If they get rid of it, most buyers will seek the E400, E63, E550 coupe or CLS550.
If you don't believe me then see your first post in this thread.
The E550 sedan is still sold in other markets including Canada where the E550/E350 sales ratio is better than it is in the USA.

This is funny if they drop the E550 for fuel concerns or regulate CAFE Standards considering E500 is still available at least in the homeland which is Germany where the fuel is more expensive than that of the US .If it is dropped because it has not sold very well ,I don't have too much too say about
E Class's sturdy V8 engine lives but in the across the pond
