Wiper blade change in maintenance plan

Are wiper blade changes included in the 4 year maintenance plan by MB...?
My wiper was making streak marks on the windscreen and therefore I asked them to change it. Afterwards they tried to charge me $80 for that. I made a stink about it and how it's listed on the MBUSA website. After a lengthy discussion the service manager agreed to waive the fee for now but said that he won't be replacing it free in future since it's not included in the plan.
I thought everything listed on the MB service manual was included and wiper changes are recommended in the B service .
Any inputs.....? Thanks.

I would assume wiper blades would be a normal wear and tear item and not included in maintenance agreements. Thank your service manager for going the extra mile for you.

prepaid maintenance only covers what is required in the guide. There are recommended items that are not covered by the plan like changing wiper blades and rotating tires. However, a dealer may change the wipers for free for their customers. One of my local dealers said they include wiper blade changes in the services if you buy the plan from them. I didn't purchase from them and their invoice did not include that part so I don't think they changed them.

It also depends on how you ask for them. Audi included them in the maintenance back when maintenance was included - but - if you said "put on new wiper blades" then you got charged. If you said "the wipers are streaking, please check them" then you got it for free.

Is that for real? Are dealers that stupid? Why would the wording of request make a difference if you are basically asking the same thing to do? Sounds rather silly.

As for the prepaid maintenance question, if you tell them the wipers are making noise and streaking, then it is their job to fix the issue. If you tell them to replace the wipers then they can say that you just wanted them changed, hence the charge. If they gave you a set for free at their inflated price, they did you a nice favor hoping for your business. But I'm way too cheap to go this route, and will stick with doing as much of my own maintenance as possible.

Wiper blades are a very quick and easy job on this car. Flip up the arm, rotate the blade, slide the old one off and new one on. But they aren't normally cheap. A set of bosch blades from a site like autohausaz.com will set you back 38 bucks, a set at the dealer is over 50. You can get cheaper versions, I got a set from Trico a year ago and paid about 15 bucks for the pair from rockauto on a closeout sale.

Even with new blades I still had chatter. What I have found over the last year what helps the most is to use Rain-x on the windshield and keep the blade wiped down often. I've also wiped down the blades with the paper towel I used to put the rainex on and it further reduces the noise and chatter. If you are not familiar with Rain-x it is a liquid you put on the glass that puts a film on the glass that sheds the water. In a moderate rain, you don't even need to use the wipers, it beads off if you are moving at speed. The rain-x provides that extra bit of lubrication to keep the blade moving without dragging on the surface of the glass.

I swear by rain-x and apply it once a month. I still get tons of chatter as you call it. I think it's time for some new blades. It's one of the few things I can actually replace (DIY) on my own lol

^I never use rain x on the front, but do on the others.....I think it builds up on the blades making them age faster, and chatter

Absolutely, the same for me. I stopped using Rainx altogether because of this issue. It ruins the blades in no time and they start streaking. Keep the windshield clean and wipe the blades with a soft cloth is all you need to do to preserve the life of the blade and stop streaks. Rainx is not a lubricant in any fashion of the word.

My dealer replaces them during A and B maintenance and I don't have pre-paid maintenance plan, even non-MB service around here replace them.
Guess, it is time for you to look for a new dealer for maintenance.

The blades chatter when I got the car but it didn't rain enough to pin it down exactly why. When I replace blades, I'll see how it goes and stick with rain-x all around until I run out. If the chatter comes back then I'll ax it and just re-up to do the other windows. I never had this problem on previous vehicles in which I used rain-x on those as well.

I have never thought to use RainX on the other windows. I wash my car enough that dirt build up is not an issue and I usually don't have any issue with seeing out of those windows. I may give that a whirl though for kicks.

I hate Rain-X, but I treated all my windows with Opti-Coat when I did my paint.

Well, I've been using it on this car for the past year and have used on my other vehicles for years and never had an issue with streaking or chatter so all I can say is go with what works for ya.
