Just picked this up. Oil help?

I just picked up our first Mercedes for my lady's DD. It's a 2010 E350 4matic. And sad thing is, i'm new to the Mercedes world! Got three bimmers and one audi but first Mercedes....

So, i'm wondering what is the best oil for the vehicle because it's due for an oil change.

I'm thinkin about Pennzoil Platinum EURO 5w40? Because my work place is having them on sale for 2$ a quart and I already have like 60 coming.

Those does meet specs.

Exceeds the following requirements:
  • ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
  • API SN / CF
  • BMW Long Life 01
  • MB 226.5, 229.3, 229.5
  • VW 502.00/505.00
  • Porsche A40
  • Chrysler MS 12991, 10850, 10725, RN0700, 0710, PSA B71 2296
  • Ferrari , Maserati, Fiat 9.5535-Z2
I know out of the people i've asked about Pennzoil oil, they been saying it's a waxed based oil? And the worst oil out there. So what do you guys think? Are these good oils at all? If not, I would likely go for Vavoline synpower 5w40 MST, since that's what the previous owner put in there.

Thanks!

Any oil that complies with the MB 229.5 spec will work. I have used Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40 and Castrol Edge European Formula 0W-40 in my 2012 E350.

You'll get a lot of opinions on the board from people about their preferred brand. Truth is that you can't go wrong with a synthetic oil that meets the MB 229.5 spec.
If it were me, I'd go with 0w40, but 5W40 is just fine.

2 bucks a quart and it meets the spec, Can you send me some? Seriously, I would have no issue with it and will most likely go with a 5w40 this next go around to see if it helps with some noise I hear at startup over the 0w40.

Nice car BTW, if you drive it some, let us know how it rates compared the bimmers and the audi, you may find yourself with another one down the road.

I think you'll find the majority on this particular section are not the DIY types, but if you look in the older model sections you will see an overwhelming majority only use the recommend Mobil 1 Synthetic, with most using 0w40. You can pick up a 5qt jug at Wal-Mart for about $26. For filter, stick with Mann brand, they stock them at my local Advanced store, or buy one from the dealer.

I use the Pennzoil Plat. Euro 5w40 in my E63. But in my E500 I have always used Valvoline Synpower 5w30. The E500 still runs like new, no oil consumption with 152,000 miles on it. One thing that is very important is to use OEM oil filters. I use MANN which make the Mercedes filter for the E500. Don't go cheap on the oil filter.

2014 E350 also restored: 1969 Camaro convertible SS 1957 Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop
Since your car is out of warranty I would use whatever makes you feel comfortable with. I would use what you are getting so cheap. I do not think I have changed my own oil in over 10 years. Used to do it all the time but as I got older I just did not have the energy to do it myself. Go for it.

i do my own work on my cars (skills and tools permitting) except with my 63 (warranty purposes). i always use Mobil 1 0W-40. thats what my mech told me and never had an issue.
